I had my home check on Sunday with Andy and I just got an email from Dave confirming I've passed.
I was so nervous before Andy came and my house has NEVER been so tidy.
I even went out and bought milk and biccies to make him tea but totally forgot to offer any. Apologies Andy!
Fiddie and Coco were a bit excited at the scent of Jasper who was in the kitchen, and Coco even tried to climb into his radiator bed just before she knocked over a few pictures etc. Very funny! It was a good way of seeing what posessions may be in the way of a curious greyhound so it was a learning experience. After a while they made themselves comfy on my sofa though which was lovely to see.
Can't wait to have my own on the sofa, although I think there will be a bit of a wait for a catsafe one that can be left for a few hours alone.
many congratulations on passing your homecheck, i know how nervous i was when ours was done - it was an enormous relief to know that we could definitely have the dogs we had fallen in love with.
hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your needle-nose !
Jenny's pc has given her some problems so she has not been able to post - so Jenny has asked me to let you all know that her lovely boy 'Ziggy' is wonderful and she will let you know all her news very soon.
how very exciting for Jenny...... that didn't take long !!! i'm sure they are both having a great time together.....looking forward to some pics of them.
Thanks Siouxsie for letting everyone know. I'm in an internet cafe with a big cheesy smile after reading all your comments.
Well Ziggy was a surprise because Dave had sent an email explaining there were no suitable dogs at the moment. About 2 hours after I read his email he phoned to say a woman had just called to rehome a cat safe greyhound!
The circumstances are quite sad because Ziggy's previous owner is terminally ill and her elderly mother who was caring for him couldn't keep him. There were quite a few tears when he was leaving and it took all my self control not to cry too.
However, he came over to me straight away and was wagging his tail. He jumped into the back of the car and lay down. I was worried that he might not be used to stairs but he bounded up them like a pro once we got back.
Ziggy is an elderly gent of 9, black with a white chest and paws and a greying muzzle which I think is very distinguished. He was given to his last owner by another woman so goodness knows how many homes he's had until now. I'm just glad this will be his last.
His coat isn't in great shape just now and he has a bit of a baldy bum and dandruff. His diet wasn't great and the woman said he "loves chips". Needless to say he is being fed better now with some sardines and cod liver oil for his coat.
He loves getting brushed so he won't take long to get sleek and shiny. His teeth aren't great at all so I reckon he'll need dental work, and he has a cyst on his front left leg. It doesn't bother him and siouxsie said it is probably a ganglion caused by a knock to the leg. Anyway, he has an appointment for the vet on Monday afternoon so they will give him an MOT.
As for Ziggy's new feline friend Jasper... Well, Ziggy couldn't be more disinterested in Jasper. Jasper is I think fascinated and wary of the giant black cat! The usual hissing and growling from Jasper when Ziggy walks within a foot of him, but Jasper has been moving closer so I'm sure they will be best buds soon.
He loves small dogs as his best friend was a yorkie who lived next door to his owner, however he isn't so keen on big dogs. I'm working on that.
I have taken tons of photos already but won't be able to put them online just yet. However I'm working on it!
He is such a gentle dog, he loves to lay his head on your lap for a cuddle and when he's lying down and I come over he puts up a paw to me to shake.
Anyway I'm rambling now but I just love talking about him to everyone. My phone bill will be huge next month!
I will post pics when I can and will be at the next strathclyde park walk if I can get help with transport so you can all meet him. I think being with other hounds would be good for him.
Congratulations Ziggy sounds like a fantastic boy Sure it will have made saying goodbye a lot easier for his previous owner knowing that he was going to such a loving home.
i am so pleased ziggy has found such a wonderful home with you.....keep rambling, it's lovely to hear yet another enthusiastic greyhound owner. i'm much the same but only get to enthuse on here.....no-one i know down here owns greyhounds

Congratulations Jenny I'm sure Ziggy will have a very happy life with you. My Angus is now 9 and apart from some medical issues, he still runs about like a pup and can keep up with the best of them.
Hope you enjoy the changes, the upheaval, the worry, the stress, the frustration, but most of the love and devotion that Ziggy will bring you.
suzanne, i've tried........god, how i've tried !!!!!!! i keep on and on about greys being the best ever pets. i think i might have found at least one convert so i'll continue to work on her !
Congratulations Jenny, glad you have found a suitable dog so quickly. Im sure you will have many happy years together and look forward to seeing some pictures soon

I'd just like to say a big thanks to Jenny for taking on Ziggy, I think it was fate, here was me sitting with a good home and no dog for it then the phone call comes about Ziggy urgently needing a new home, I think my heart did skip a beat when I was told he was living with 3 cats. Anyways thanks to Jenny for taking on Ziggy when we really didn't know that much about him, it was a bit of a gamble but looks like it's worked out!
Well done Jenny - Ziggy sounds absolutely gorgeous.
Our Suzie was nine and a half (now ten) when we adopted her and we have never had a moment's regret. She is such a cuddlesome girl and still full of beans when out and about.
When we adopted her she had been living with an elderly person in sheltered accommodation, so she hadn't had much exercise and was pretty wobbly in her rear end. But gradually her fitness has improved and she can go at a trot for miles now (while Sim zooms around covering about 100x the distance). She can also manage a fair turn of speed when she has a mind to.
She is full of attitude and just loves to get in and about whatever the boys are doing - and keep them in their place: barking at Sim and Skipper!
Ziggy sounds like he will turn out to be just as much of a character as Suzie.
Aw, congrats! Ziggy sounds lovely & very lucky to have found you! Hope his teeth turn out OK. Daily grooming followed by a rub with a shammy leather might help shine up his coat.
Hope this works. Used scanner at local library. If it doesn't you will all have to wait a bit longer for Ziggys pics.
He was at the vet tonight and booked in for op on teeth, probably getting a few out, and removing leg cyst on 31st Jan. Vet said it is 99% probably a fatty lump but they can grow larger if not treated so that will be a big day for him all in all. He's also underweight which I thought anyway. He was a brave boy and had his first vaccination so he'll be getting a treat tonight.
Yay it worked. Ya dancer!! As they say round ma bit! Thanks for all your comments. I now feel even more part of this as I can finally relate to all your hound chat!!!
