Daisy's leg
Permalink Closed

well, Daisy at emergency vets as i type this.

earlier this evening she had a mad five minutes running round the lounge.  from upstairs I heard her squeal, came down to find she had scraped her back leg along the bottom of the sofa and torn a strip of skin down......ouch!!

as i had to go out quite early, i kept an eye on it and it seemed to have stopped bleeding.  no such luck!  returning home about 9pm, it was still weeping so, on the phone to the emergency vet.  neil had to take her there and she is still there now (10.45pm).

we are waiting to hear from him so neil can go get her......she'll have been anaesthetised and stitched so she'll be dopier than usual!

hope she's ok.  i feel like a really bad mum for not getting her straight to the vet's in the first place.

Poor daisy. Dont feel bad, sometimes these things heal on there own and you dont always realise how bad it is straight away.  Hope she is ok

I hope Daisy is ok and recovering well from her anaesthetic.

Angus did something similar a while ago. He was chasing a squirrel and the squirrel ran round a big rock and Angus decided to run thro it. He degloved both his left legs and needed to get 32 stitches. The one on his front leg looked a bit like an anchor tattoo, so he was called popeye for a wee while! You don't need to tell me about accident prone dogs!!

thank you all for your kind words.

daisy seems ok today, tho she was very whiney last night.  so far, she's not bothering with her bandage, which is due to be changed at the vet tomorrow.  hopefully, she will now be ok and heal well.

Ooooh - ouch - that does sound nasty.  It is so sore if you scrape a small bit of skin off a finger - imagine how sore to remove a large bit!  Ick.

Big cuddles to Daisy from all of us

"degloving".......what a very descriptive word !!  i like it!

daisy went to have her bandage changed today.  all seems well, tho she did get herself into a little tizzy - all huffing, puffing & shaking!

vet said it looked good, so far, and they will be monitoring it closely - she has another bandage change due on saturday morning.

(thank goodness for pet insurance, that's what i say !!)

still giving her lots of cuddles and tlc, so i hope she's going to sleep thru the nite instead of the usual whining at 3am !

Hi Tree, sorry to hear about Daisy's leg but glad to hear she's on the mend. Hopefully it won't be as sore & you'll all get a whole night's rest.

I know how worrying it is as you may have read about Tyler leaping off the vet bed when they were about to anaethetise her for her dental.  She scuffed & knocked her leg in the process.  There was no need for stitches but she was bruised.  We thought the bruising would be worse the following day but thankfully no - its OK.  The vet wants to check it tomorrow.

Tree,

Hope poor Daisey is getting better now. They are all the same (when your back is turned they have a mad few minutes!) Chad went mad the other night and knocked a vase full of flowers and water everywhere! He had just come in from a walk (I ask you!).

Hugs to Daisey Em, Tig and Chad XX

thank you from Daisy to everyone for your kind thoughts and words.

she is walking on the leg as normal now even tho she still needs another bandage change tomorrow morning.  she can get up the stairs without any problem unless, of course, she feels she ought to be carried up then she plays on the poorly-leg-syndrome !!!!  crafty little sod eh !  mind you, neil falls for it every time!

vet says that, as long as the blood supply has been restored throughtout the whole wound, she will heal very well.  worst-case scenario is that the blood supply doesn't reach the top of the wound.... then she'd have to have more surgery to sort it out.

fingers and paws crossed.
