Why is it that they do a half squat instead of cocking their legs? Is it being lazy? And is it just greyhounds?!

LOL - think its a young Greyhound thing - Murphy was at least 20mths old before he learned to cock his leg - not after numeros attempts watching & learning from his pals, but then loosing balance at the wrong moment & wee'ing everywhere.....

My handsome big boy Jim was 5 when I got him and he still didn't know how to cock his leg, he did learn to do it about a month before I lost him, and he had perfect aim every time.

Daz is another front paw piddler. He isn't doing it quite so often now but I still see him make various attempts to cock his leg and overbalance. But the main times he does it are that he's SO nosy. He stands there peeing in the garden and as people come to visit the shop we're above or vans come to deliver or _anything_ he will be so focussed on watching them his leg drifts down and the pee starts jetting at the paws. He's not interested in cleaning himself off though so after a few times of him lying on his duvet and making it stink of dog piss he now gets his paws washed down with a watering can before we come back in if I've seen him do the paw pissing thing.

this half-squat thing is definitely a greyhound move. dave does exactly the same, too much effort to balance on three legs obviously. he sort of points his bits over to the right slightly.

he also does the peeing down the front right leg too tho doesn't bother cleaning it cos he knows mummy will clean him! funny how they all do it down the right leg isn't it?

as you say, girlies are much neater - daisy never gets a wet paw. if she wees on a slope and it looks like she might get a wet foot, she gently lifts it up till she's finished !

My grey Angus does the half squat half standing pee thing, however my lurcher girl Jenna does not pee in the quaint way the girlies tend to, but tries to lift her bum as high up a tree as she can get or lifts one back leg up like a we boy dog does. V strange indeed.

Harry squats and pees down his fronts legs, and Pearly lifts hers to widdle on big bushes. My two are confused!

I think Presley is very considerate in raising his front paw to avoid the "stream". It's not just Grey boys who pee on their legs in a half squat, Biscuit does both styles - pees on leg in the half squat, licks it off immediately, carries on the walk and will then do a proper high cocking of the leg at a lamppost etc.

Other related issue was his velcro strap on his jacket interfering with his "tackle"!!! I have to make sure the skirt is pulled back a bit!! However, just recently, I think his shoulders have broadened, pulling his jacket towards his chest more, so problem not so much an issue! All this attention to detail!!!
