SUNDAY 18th June 2006!!
Permalink Closed

Have you got a bike? Do your friends and family have bikes? Do your work colleagues have bikes? Get them ready for Sunday 18th June for a sponsored cycle from Glasgow to Falkirk!

From: Bowling, Glasgow
Route: Forth & Clyde Canal (All flat, no hills!!)
To: Falkirk Wheel, Falkirk
Distance: approximately 30 miles
Minimum sponsorship to enter: £25
Lycra: optional

This is not a gruelling, back breaking cycle – you don’t have to be super fit to do this!

If you can’t make the cycle why not come along to the Falkirk Wheel to greet the cyclists and see them finish the cycle?! Bring your hounds and have a nice stroll along the Forth & Clyde or Union Canals, combine it with a boat trip and a visit to the Falkirk Wheel - just make sure you are there to raise money for the Kennel Fund and raise awareness to the public about GAL!

We will be looking for volunteers to help on the day of the cycle so if you can help, please contact tracey@gal.org.uk.

To get a sponsor pack for the cycle please send your name and address to me CJKG1@hotmail.com

Watch this space for more info on the cycle – times and meeting places etc will be arranged soon!

Thanks

Jane

Is it possible to cycle from Edinburgh to Falkirk too? We could all meet in the middle!

Good idea Fiona, I will look into this. The cycle I did last year for guide dogs ended at Ratho, and I don't see why some people couldn't start there and have us all meet in the middle. I will have to look into it a bit first, work out distances etc and of course I will need more volunteers!!
Would anyone else be interested in starting in Edinburgh?
Cheers
Jane

I'd be up for starting from Edinburgh too, as long as the pace wasn't too fast! Debbie got me a great bike Christmas 2004 which hasn't seen an awful lot of use, but could be dusted off for a good cause (Debbie says she'll meet us at the wheel.......)

There is def going to be two starts on this cycle - one at Bowling, Glasgow side and one at Edinburgh Quay (I think), for the east start! i am still waiting to hear back from the Canal Society to confirm everything is ok to go ahead then I will be expecting floods of emails requesting sponsor packs!!

I really think we could make a decent amount for the kennel fund if lots of people get involved, if you can't cycle then come to the falkirk wheel and raise some awareness and some more cash for the kennel fund!

Don't worry if you think you aren't very fit - it is certainly not a race and a leisurely pace is great!

Watch this space for the final details soon!
Cheers
