Just a quick question - is it just Tilly or do Greyhounds not bark much? We've only heard Tilly bark once and that was at 3 in the morning the first night we had her! - not really an ideal time to premier her bark! She gets very excited when she plays but doesn't bark. Wish the same could be said about Drummer!
Florence is the same, never heard her bark or whine (we've had her 5yrs), does very occasionally gee a high pitched 'yip' when she excited. Abbey barks, but mostly yodels and then theres Dexter.........he barks/whines makes odd noises ALL the time. (Someone forgot to tell him he's a groo NOT people!)
Ziggy doesn't bark at all, although Vernon has pushed him to it a couple of times by trying to lie in his bed beside him. Vernon on the other hand is a barker when he feels it necessary. He also does a good yelp now and again.
We've had Freddy for almost 4 years (goodness me, where has that time gone?!!) and I think he's maybe only barked about half a dozen times, and even then it's only when he's being played with and wound up (usually by Chas !). Wilma has barked even less than that!
The first time we heard Freddy bark we were amazed - I've never heard such a big bark! I think he was fairly stunned himself though - he seemed to jump around as if to say "who the hell was that!!"
I do feel sorry for people who's dogs bark all the time - it must be very hard to live with! Give a big old quiet grey anyday!!

dave barks quite often - usually at imaginery cats in the garden, and at daisy if he wants her to play (she ignores him).
daisy doesn't often bark - she will join in with dave in the garden but otherwise doesn't bother. she's not remotely posh either - too much of a tart to be posh !
Out of our mod the groo's hardly utter a word - Ruby has barked about 3 times in the 5 years we've had her and to be honest when she did I almost died of shock, Ivor barks but only once a day and that's around 6pm when he knows I'm away making his dinner, Suzie barks once a day aswell, thats usually round 8pm when she decided she wants second helpings. Wizard (who's 99% greyhound) has never barked ever...As for the Lurchers, George, Archie and Rebel - yappie we buggers..
Our two normally bark for food-related reasons. Harry barks to tell us to hurry up to get through to the kitchen for his dinner, and Pearly barks to tell us that she's doing a 'down' or somesuch wee trick and we should be rewarding her for it with a chew!
And Harry barks if he sees a cat walking across the back wall of the garden.
Cas barks if someone is at the door or outside the house, and she sometimes barks when other dogs approach out doors. The rest of the time she is very quite.

Sunny barked alot when we first got her, she would suddenly stand up and bark at me for ages,( she would only ever do it to me not Steve or the kids) we worked out she must have done this in her last home to get attention when she wanted walked or fed.
By getting her into a routine and ignoring her when she does bark at me it has stopped and she only barks now when we are playing (mad half hour every night about 6pm).
Its a good job she dosn't bark really as Steve works constant nights and a dog that barked at every sound would not have gone down well.
Landess and Sunny.

Vegas only barks when he's excited about going for a walk or when he's inviting another dog to play chases!
I'm always amazed at GAL events like the Christmas Show because they're a lot quieter than you'd think considering there are so many dogs there. Of course, you can hear the odd outbreak of barking sometimes but mostly people are making the most noise!
How could I have forgotten how Pearly barks and barks and barks whenever she's in a group of dogs who she thinks aren't behaving as us hoomans want them to?! Or if we're on a GAL walk and she thinks we're standing around for too long before getting going? Bossy little madam that she is.
Daz is surprisingly vocal then. But he doesn't do random barking, it's just that we live above a shop and on a busy street so from time to time there will be children running about screaming or adults coming home late from the pub that set him off. He's getting more used to them but if it happens when he's sleeping he will often feel the need to bark just once before he remembers it's nothing to worry about. He used to bark at all the delivery trucks for the shop and for the shop owners walking through the yard but that stopped quite soon.
Other barking occasions - Peter settles down to watch the Simpsons when Daz thinks it's high time he got his evening walk. Daz spins around in circles, ears back emitting 'play with me' barks.
- sleep barking. Does nobody else's dog do this? He'll be lying there, paws atwitch and little breathy barks start coming just sotto voce woof woof... woof woof.
- gone to sleep while we watch TV together and we leave the room (telling him we're going but he's a VERY deep sleeper) and he wakes up to find we're gone. He usually barks and hurries up to the landing to check where we are.
Add to this picture a great number of rooing noises and groany noises when he's roaching and we've got quite a chatty dog
Millie whinges frequently - when she needs out, when she's hungry, when she wants attention. As for Tigger - the latest edition to the Lawrence/Maclagan clan - we have a mad half hour about two or three times a night. At these particular moments, Tigger barks, growls, whines, howls, grunts, squeaks and makes the strangest range of noises. She seems to feel that the wall needs propped up while she's doing it (or the couch). Strangely, she doesn't feel the need to bark when someone comes to the door and the other two are going doolally!

Both Freddy & Wilma do this. We're always encouraging Freddy to run that little bit faster in his dream and he might just catch that pesky wabbit!!
