Hi, I have just found this forum via some friendly dog owners on other forums; even the first cursory read revealed tons of useful information.
My dogs are Bonnie, 5 1/2, a lurcherette (1/2 lurch, 1/2 border collie) whom I got from the RSPCA at 10 weeks old. Piper is a greyhound, recently retired from racing, adopted by our family on Easter Sunday. She is 2 1/2, very sweet and gentle, and appears to learn very fast, considering that she's never lived with a family before.
As a brandnew greyhound owner, I'd appreciate any advice and helpful suggestions - as I said, there are no obvious problems, but then I like to avoid them rather than mend them! Bonnie has spoiled me a bit because she is the easiest dog ever: she practically trains herself, and has actually invented some rules for herself (such as backing out of the kitchen when her food is prepared).
Hi and welcome to the forum, your dogs sound lovely! My advice is to surf the Greyhound Awareness League website, join as a member, go on as many GAL walks as possible with your dogs, meet lots of fellow dog people and get involved in the forum and other GAL events. If you need any advice along the way your in the right place! Big pats to your dogs, Lorraine.
GAL don't have any walks south of the border, but there are quite a few folk from down south that regularly post on the forum - I'm not very good, geographically with place in England, but I do noticed you are from Surrey and there was a forum member under the name Alisapack that stays in Guildford, Surrey and I'm sure Alisa goes on lurcher/greyhounds walks. You should keep a lookout for her here.
Hopefully folk do think i am a nice person , but i found out your name by clicking on your user name and this give me your details, if you click on other folks user names you can find out a bit of info
Looking forward to hearing more about you, Bonnie & Piper
