Blimey Christine.

Some of the pictures are really not for the faint hearted but necessary to educate people I guess thank goodness most of the clip showed how wonderful pets greys make. Thanks for posting the link

Excellent, is the montage to be used on TV or what. It is very effective and gets the message across. Nora

I'm busy sending that on to anyone I know as I speak.

Well done to whoever did that - it really should be shown on TV.

Great video - one criticism is that there's an awful lot of pictures there of Greyhounds with very young children and/or cats. Perhaps it should have been more reflective of the type of pets these dogs do make...

thankyou for that Christine - lovely video. Its inspired me to do a bit of unashamed GAL promotion & Ive just sent this email to 33 folk on my email list of buddies.....- if they all pass the same email on to 5 pals, then thats over 150 folk seeing that video & hopefully clicking onto the GAL website & the kennel fund.....cant do any harm....

You guys know just how much I love my 2 greyhounds - thanks to GAL they are
both still alive today - Murphy (my 2yr old black boy) was 2 mths old when
him & his 7 litter mates were saved from all being drowned by his racing
breeder as he couldnt afford to pay the kennelling fees...all 8 went to fab
homes in Scotland thanks to GAL.

Maisie - well you know her story - she is just 2yrs old we think & was
rescued a year ago from being used as bait in a dog fighting pitt somewhere
in the scottish borders. She was ripped to shreds - ears torn apart - huge
open sores on her thighs. She had been stabbed in her chest & had numerous
cigarette burns on her. She was emaciated & riddled with mange. She was
about to be PTS as the rescue kennels had never seen such a horrific
sight...thankfully they gave her a chance & called GAL. Ive had her for
10mths now & shes no longer petrified of everyone & everything. She no
longer wets herself if you take out a kitchen knife to chop the veg.....

If you love dogs
please pass this link on to others.....any donations to the GAL kennel fund
can be done on-line here - GAL are trying to raise 60,000 pounds to place a
deposit on land in which we can build the UKs first purpose built Greyhound
Sanctuary - it will be much needed as the number of Greys being disposed of
as they can no longer race will be dramatically increasing in the next few
years & beyond, with the building of the new Greyhound Racing stadium at
Wallyford, East Lothian - a 5 story top of the range arena with restaurants
& shops etc - fun for all the family!! But not for the hundreds of dogs
that will be needed in order to fill all the races taking place.

You can see just some of the 78 greyhounds & lurchers GAL are trying to find
homes for at the moment in the link below...Thankyou! Sorry for this
unashamable plug, but if you guys can even just forward this on to another 5
folk not on the list above, & they pass it on again, then this is the only
way we can spread the word about the abuse these dogs endure & more
importantly raise awareness of the Kennel project & hopefully make folk
realise what wonderful pets Greyhounds make :)

FAO DAVE

- had 6 emails back from folk so far that I emailed the above blurb to - all saying wow - sounds fab - clicked on the GAL site to make a donation & couldnt figure out where to go to do so.....

thats at least 80 quid that I know of gone as they all gave up....that was mainly from going onto the main webpage - they also couldnt see where the info about the Kennel fund was...

may be obvious to us but not to these brand new folk....

Im sure they werent the 1st & wont be the last....

Suzanne

Both links are on GAL's main webpage (http://www.gal.org.uk).

The Kennel Fund Link is right in the middle in red writing.

The link to make a donation is under "How You Can Help GAL Dogs".

oh - I know where they are Glenda, my point was that these folk who havent visited the site before couldnt find them as they werent obvious enough for them so gave up looking & therefore didnt donate....

- makes me wonder how many other folk that just visit the site once in a blue moon or purposely log on to donate as a one off, find it difficult to find them too & just give up looking....an opportunity missed....

IMHO - the red line link to the kennel fund just looks like a statement - when I fisrt saw it, it didnt dawn on me that I clicked there to get into it...

would it not be beneficial to have their own icons ? ie blatently obvious "DONATE HERE" box & a "DONATE TO KENNEL FUND box ? where as soon as you clicked it you were at the right screen & werent then given more options to search under???

ie - idiot proof!

hope that makes sense - sorry...dont quite know how to verbalise what I mean...*after thought* - maybe the membership icon could be moved down to the Miscallaneous section & that space can be used for the kennel fund icon/link??

Just a suggestion.....

Obviously we want the site to be fairly intuitive but it has to contain a huge amount of information so the icons (size, positioning, etc) are placed according to GAL's priorities. It's just not possible to put a link to every item on the main page.

Donations may seem like a very high priority (and indeed they are) but so is membership of GAL groups whether they exist purely for fundraising (like the 100 Club) or to help us disseminate information, event details, attract new adopters, etc (like GAL membership and the forum). These have the type of impact that can help GAL grow as well as raise funds. The other ways in which GAL supporters can help are equally important.

Donations to the kennel fund are entirely separate from GAL's main account donations so it would not be appropriate to include a kennel fund donation link on the main site. KF info and a direct link for donations are on the KF website itself. This will very soon also allow online donations.

The Kennel Fund link on the main site is easily changed and is, in fact, already done. An icon link to the KF site will be added to the main page soon.

If anyone is interested in donating to GAL outwith the website they need only ask for the address or more info and it'll be sent right out.

Yeah, I know what you mean Dave but remember this video is intended for people who know nothing about greyhounds. A lot of people just assume that they cannot be pets at all or that they can't have one as a pet if they have young children or cats. Although some greyhounds can't live with young children or cats, many can.

I think the video is great, covers all aspects, great soundtrack, brought tears to my eyes. I'm all for "shock tactics". They work for me anyway. I though it was really informative.

Hi,

I don't know who I should be asking about this video as it was posted by Christine but the actual montage said created by Katey. So, whoever it belongs to may I use it on my website www.greyhoundmuses.com ? It is just the sort of thing I am looking for. I would just do a page with short introduction and a link to the montage.

Regards

John.
