3rd June 2006 - Greyhound Open Day - Paisley
Permalink Closed

Hi Folks, the nice people at the 3 Mile Vet Centre, 2075 Paisley Road West, Cardonald are having a fun family open day on Saturday June 3rd. After meeting some of our volunteers at the Vet School Rodeo they have invited GAL and some homeless hounds along to be the star attractions.

The day will kick off with a gentle dog walk starting at 12 midday then it's all back to the vet surgery for 1pm to meet the public and have some fun, the open days winds down at 4pm.

Two things, firstly it sounds like a great day out so get yourselves down there for an hour or two to enjoy the fun, secondly the usual volunteer appeal - I need a handful of folks to collect homeless dogs from Rachels kennels in Langbank and take them out for the day to the vets, failing this I'd like just to confirm you can go along with your own dogs so we have a big Greyhound presence. please emali me on david@gal.org.uk is you can help.

All funds raised on the day will go towards the GAL kennel fund.

Where are they actually having the open day?

Unfortunately, that's Lilias Day in Kilbarchan & I've got to do the Church Bakery Stall!! but I'll try & publicise this event as much as I can.

Sorry just noticed that you had mentioned a walk & then back to the Vets office - wasn't sure where the walk was to take place as PRW is a very busy road into Glasgow City Centre.

Bellahouston Park is just off Paisley Rd West, my guess would be the walk will take place there.

There is a fully enclosed dog walking area in Bellahouston for anyone who may want to let their grey off lead. Word of warning though, have a walk around the perimeter first just to make sure all fencing is secure. Doggy toilets and seats are provided.

The Walk will start from the surgery along Paisley Road West then into Bellahouston Park, around the park then finishing back at the surgery (about 3 miles) anyone taking part in the walk gets a FREE T-Shirt!!!..

So, Dave tell me why you didn't mention this when I bought the black one and matching hat at the Rodeo?

Just to clarify my post - The Vet surgery are providing free T-Shirts to all participants in their walk, not sure what will be printed on them, probably something about the walk and the vet surgery.

Hi guys

As far as I am aware the T-shirts will have the 3 Mile Vet Centre sponsored walk in aid of Greyhound Awareness League somewhere on the T-shirt.  I will confirm this nearer the middle of the week but GAL do have a mention on the shirt!

Hi Everyone

A little bit of bad news reguarding the T-shirts for the sponsored walk, we are not getting one!!!!It will be the organisers who will be wearing them so they are easily spotted!  The good news however is that all the money raised from the sponsored walk will be going towards the kennel club, 3 Mile Vet is also selling raffle tickets from the practice and on the day of the walk, again all proceeds going to the GAL kennel fund!

It promises to be a great day with a number of homless dogs coming along, other attractions are face painting for the kids, and Dog Agility Sessions.

It will be fantastic to see a big support for GAL, this is a opportunity to show off our dogs and help raise the awareness that they make fantastic pets!!!

If you are interested please contact me tracey@gal.org.uk and I will get a sponsor form with a map of the route to you asap!

Hi Everyone,

Just a wee reminder that 3 Mile Vet Centre is having an open day this Sat the 3rd June.  They have very kindly chosen GAL as the charity to benifit from all profits made on the day!!

We hope to see you on the day, bring along your dogs for the sponsored walk start time 12pm, or come along at 1pm for raffles and fun!!

Folks, just a reminder about this event, we're really struggling to get bodies and dogs to it which is a shame cos the vet practice have really gone out of their way to try to raise funds for the GAL Kennel Fund. If you can attend the event even for a couple of hours on Saturday with your own dog please email tracey@gal.org.uk to confirm your (and your dogs attendance)

As ever thanks in advance..

I was there with Sim and Skipper and it was a great event.  A huge amount of effort had been put in by quite a small number of people, none of whom - as far as I'm aware - are greyhound owners.

There was a sponsored walk, then back to the (very well equipped, beautiful, new) vets premises where there was refreshments, face painting for kids, dog agility in the car park, guess the name of the teddy, tablet and other goodies for sale, a drug rep there to talk up his own de-fleaing products, paintings on the animal cages with 25% to GAL for any sales, and an absolutely HUGE raffle with an enormous number of prizes (I didn't win a bl**dy thing) - all of which had been donated!

The premises had been arranged so as to inform the visitors of what goes on - for example a soft toy dog having an x-ray, and another with an IV drip attached, plus wee soft toy cats and dogs in the animal recovery cages.

It was really touching to see the amount of effort which had gone into the day, not to mention the fact that all the staff gave up their whole Saturday to take part.

Hopefully - as well as the money - we might get one or two applications from the day.

It was a great day, everyone seemed to have a fab time and what a lot of money raised!

My favourite bit though was a chap who asked me "Did he used to be a greyhound?" refering to Moss the ex-racer (who was known as Gloss before Rachel renamed him)
