Blue Peter Bark in the Park
Permalink Closed

Hi guys,

it's just been confirmed that we will be attending Bark in the Park at Pollock Park on Sunday 28th May.

I haven't been to one of these before but as far as I can tell it will be like a televised Rodeo.

For this reason, we're looking for loads of volunteers to turn up and hopefully to bring along a hound or two from Langbank Kennels.

If you can do this, please email me CarolmGAL@aol.com and let me know.

Cheers,

C

Carol,

What time is the event? If I can I would be glad to go and to bring a dog or two...

Thanks,

Linda

I'll be transportless on Sunday, I'm afraid. Does anyone know if there's public transport from city centre to the park or can any kind person take me along?

Will we be on the telly?

Caroline and I are going.

Caroline is busy in the morning, so I am collecting a dog from Rachel and Eddie's and taking him/her, plus our foster boy Skipper, to Pollok and meeting Caroline there.

We had a great day out in Pollock Park today! The sun shone, the band played Beatles songs and later there was a Kylie Minogue tribute band. It was very similar to the GUMVA Rodeo with the Hawks Display, the Huskies and a novelty dog show where Andy Cameron was the host! There was plenty to interest everyone and loads of food and drink stalls.

Guide Dogs for the Blind from all over Scotland were there - the pups were all ages and at all stages in training. SSPCA had a stall, The Wildlife Trust had one too and so did Scottish Badgers alongside Strathclyde Police. Numerous arts and crafts stalls were dotted around too and a whole tent was devoted to Strathclyde Woodcarving where the carvers showed us how they whittled the wood to the shapes and textures they wanted.

One of Strathclyde Council's magnificent Clydesdale Horses was available for petting and its handlers displayed how to dress a horse for show by plaiting its mane and tail. Three Highland Cows with their cute calves were on display too.

Thanks to all the volunteers who manned  GAL's stall. It was a busy event and it got crowded and extremely hot for everyone under the canvas. There was lots of interest in the homeless hounds GAL volunteers brought along. Hopefully they will all get a home soon.

Christine

ps don't know when it'll be on telly. We'll have to watch Blue Peter, I suppose!

Thanks Christine for replying to Siouxies post. I fell asleep just after I arrived home last night and am still recovering today. I forget I'm not twenty one anymore

Yesterday was a very long day but more importantly a brilliant one for GAL in terms of raising awareness. A big thanks once again to all the volunteers who came along and to all those folk who stopped by to say hello with their own hounds to show their support. Christine was especially very popular with her carrier bag of cooked chicken, she was like the Pied Piper of Hounds!

All of the homeless hounds attending were SO well behaved despite dogs of all shapes and sizes coming to say hello to them. They did a fantastic PR job and it was a real joy to see people totally amazed at how gentle and laid back they were.

By the end of the day they were all so shattered I think a half a dozen cats could've walked past them and they wouldn't have raised an eyelid ( well maybe that's a slight exaggeration). Our gorgeous white and brindle Mickey fell asleep at the front of the stall and within a short space of time had completely disappeared underneath the tablecloth. Fiona was stood with a lead in her hand and no dog, Andy probably had to carry him back to the car.

All the volunteers were kept really busy. I don't think there was a lull all day at the GAL stall and the ones 'working' the park did a grand job directing folk in to get more information. I'm really hoping that some of the application forms handed out will result in some of our homeless hounds going to their forever home.

My only disappointment throughout the whole day was not getting my hands on Matt Baker the Blue Peter presenter. Andy said what a shame especially as I'd gone to the trouble of putting some slap on!

I was gutted, not even a wee hello how'y'doing?

Well he can stick his Blue Peter Badge

As Christine and Denise have said, it was a fantastic day yesterday. I didn't get to see any of what was going on as we were so busy at the stall, I've never seen so many people interested in the dogs and some of them asking for applications seemed so genuine, fingers crossed.

Mickey was hilarious, he was so deperate to lie down, but there was no space. He soon spotted Denise's lovely pink fleece blanket which was being used as a table cover, and without me having any idea of what was going through his mind, he suddenly launched himself up onto the table!!! Denise had to lift him back down - and he is not a small boy!

Denise, how do you know about Matt Baker? Who he? I spent the day looking out for John Noakes!

Oh joy Fiona, someone else old enough to remember John Noakes and his wonderful Shep.

I checked Matt Baker out on the Bark in the Park website but he was on the TV this year at Crufts. Have to admit I'm a secret Blue Peter watcher just to listen to his lovely northern accent.

You're not the only ones! I too remember John Noakes, one of the most natural presenters around and the collie dog Shep. Never heard of Matt Baker - haven't a clue what he looks like, either. I really must watch Blue Peter when I get some time off!

It was John Noakes (Get down Shep!), Peter Purves and Lesley Judd when I watched, I think Valerie Singleton had just left. I always watched it in those days, I never watched the STV rival Magpie as that was too rough for a wee quiet soul like me!

Is it still on Mondays and Thursdays? I won't see it, hope someone tapes it.
