blimey you lot have all gone quiet! Have you all sneaked off on holiday and not told anyone?...I'll assume you are all busy doing world cup predictions or ferreting down the back of your sofas looking for coppers for GAL or having a good clear out of your junk to contribute to our car boot sale goodies (god we don't ask for much do we?)...
Well for our members you won't be bored too long, watch out for large brown envelopes containing newsletters dropping through your doors in the next few days (did I mention it was all glossy and actually has staples?)
So what about the GAL dogs then? Well we rehomed RANGER yesterday a 6yr old Fawn male Greyhound, number 105 for the year, not that I'm counting......if it only stopped raining for about 5 minutes we might attract more punters (apologies to those in the south of England for mentioning our water levels!)...Still on the dogs I finally hit rock bottom yesterday, now you all know how rubbish I am at naming dogs, sadly I have to admit I've called GAL's newest arrival MARION, not bad but he's actually a boy dog......see, his racing name is Thin White Duke - the Duke - John Wayne - Marion...lateral thinking at it's best...
On a final note can someone please persuade me that watching Shahbaz's antics on Big Brother is not a productive use of an hour each day....
The Thin White Duke is actually David Bowie, so maybe it would be better calling him Bowie - or Diamond (from Diamond Dogs) or how about Major Tom, Ziggy or Rebel!!
Great news that Ranger has found a home! Hope he settles well like they all do in a good home.
I think you should apply to be in Big Brother next time round, Dave. You'd win hands down because nothing seems to faze you at all!!
Quiet? I'm always quiet! I've been having sleepless nights waiting to find out if I'd got that damn job, but it's given me plenty of time to count coppers and they will be winging their way to you shortly!
Good for Ranger, he's a great dog, I walked him at Bothwell when he was there.
If you're sticking with the girly names, but with a Bowie theme, how about Gene as in Gene Genie? That's girly, but male at the same time!
Shahbaz is a pain in the ****, do not give him any more attention!
I think the very mention of names for dogs gets everyone going...
I thought there was a list of suggested names that got used if a name didn't come with a new dog?? If not, I'm sure forum folk would love to make up a list
I'm always trying to think of new names that I haven't heard of before!
I guess Shahbaz won't be a chosen name then!!!
I only like to watch the first episode of Big Bro when the characters arrive, so at least I know who people are talking about day in day out, but missed it this time! So think I will just go around in shut-down mode as far as big bro is concerned!
Maybe we should have volunteers suggest names and, for next year, go throught the list alphabetically, in the way Americans name hurricaines. Ie the first dog on the books after the AGM would start with A and so on...
We could even run a book on how many times we will go through the alphabet with the names and give the money to the kennel fund...
Of course Shirley's a fab name for a dog - if it's a girl! Personally I think Dave's been listening to too many Johnny Cash records - "A boy named Sue" an' all that!
Well, I've just got back from two weeks holiday and thought I'd log on to the Forum and catch up with what's been happening. It would appear you have all got too much sun from somewhere with all this talk of John Wayne, David Bowie and so on! At least it gave me a laugh! I think that you should definately go along the Bowie route and leave John Wayne well alone as far as naming the poor dog Marion goes! That's a shocker Dave! Is this what happens when you tune in to Big Brother?
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Sunday at Strathclyde Park.
OK, OK, Thin White Duke is now the dog previously known as Marion.......I've now called him 'EARLY'...this is my favourite name (currently) for a dog, I got reading some books about the American Civil War earlier in the year and figured on calling some of the new dogs after the generals that fought in the war (Ok is seemed like a good idea to me) anyways Early was top of my list, to date I've called 4 dogs by that name and every single one of those dogs has been quickly renamed when they got to the kennels or a foster home.....so when Early arrives at our kennels next week he'll probably be renamed again but I've decided to stick at it till I finally rehome a dog called Early..
Very impressive Jennifer! Liked the first 1 of the running grey. The white and tan one with the wobbly head was a bit odd..
Know the feeling. Very bored Phil out at Edinburgh beer festival. Hope he brings me a doggy bag.
Maybe I should get around to going back on the chat room. How is it doing does anyone use it ? What is the best time now?
btw Marion is not too bad a name, it's Hazel's middle name after my mum (spelt Marian though) perhaps more of a girly name there is a reason John Wayne changed his name after all Early is not too bad you could call him earl for short.
I would love a grey with the name Perry, short for periscope due to the way their noses seem to be able to go around corners. Would be great to hear what other people would call a dog given half the chance

My next greyhound is going to be called "Echo". Bit weird but i love the name. Also i once called a white and grey bitch at my work "Mouse" as she was grey like a mouse and was so nervous that when you touched her she squeaked like one too.

I love the name Shnell (one of Abbey's many nicknames). The look on some German tourists faces the last time we were doon Ayr beach .........priceless!
