Not sure if Martha qualifies as a foster dog or not really...... but she's so wonderful everyone deserves to know all about her!

On Wednesday afternoon, a neighbour came to my door saying there was a 2 year old bitch due to be put down at 6pm as she had a broken toe, and did I know anyone that might be able to help.

To cut a long story short, Esther went off and collected her, and Martha is with me until something is sorted out for her.

She's a lovely dog, very sweet and settled in quickly. She's a smart cookie, and will be housetrained really soon too. She walks nice on her lead, and seems fine with other dogs so far.
She also doesn't mind mice running all over her and loves teddy bears!!!

Here she is....

Yes, that's a real live mouse running all over her (long story!).

That is THE most wonderful photo! She looks so content to have a mouse running over her. What is the long story?!

She is a very lucky dog indeed, being saved at the last minute, I'm so glad your neighbour knew to come to you.

Oh wow, Billy looks exactly like her!

Fiona, I posted the story of Scarlet the mouse (the very naughty mouse who will not stay in his cage) over on the rat forum.

Basically he escaped and I found him with Martha, who was bemused but totally laid back.
Thankfully! And thankfully Eddie hadn't seen him cos Eddie would have had Scarlet for breakfast and then asked for seconds.

Martha is adorable and is so cool. WOW ! Too allow Scarlet the mouse to run over her like that shows true sweetness and tolerance. She seems so laid back considering she was sort of dumped with you, what a great nature. Nora

Martha and Billy are both Larkhill Jo dogs, he's Martha's dad and Billys granddad, both dogs have obviously inherited his white nose! There's also a few similarities on the female side to!

Big thanks to Vicki for taking in Martha at such short notice a few hours before she was due to be PTS, she's one lucky girl.

I was going to post a little foster appeal for Martha tonight but I'll just hijack this post I think, the pictures tell pretty much all about Martha! We'd like to find a foster home for her so Vicki can get some much needed floor space back! If you can help out please email me at david@gal.org.uk

By the way Martha doesn't do sofas or beds ..... she's strictly a floor dwelling dog. No barking or whining and she sleeps right through the night, so no toilet trips needed in the wee small hours.

She's also had a bath, so she's nice and clean now.

What else? Not a picky eater, eats all her dinner up in one go.

She doesn't appear to have any bad habits at all so far and has been left in the house without any chewing, stealing or making any sort of mess or getting over excited when I came back.

Definitely playful and enjoys the squeaky, cuddly toys best and rolling in the grass, but isn't at all demanding of attention (although she loves getting her ears and neck rubbed).

If she is still up for fostering when I start my new job she just has to come to me!

Sunny is half sister to Larkhill Jo (Staplers Jo her dad) Does that make her Marthas Auntie  and Billys great Aunt  she has the family white nose to.

Martha looks lovely. I couldn't beleive the picture with the mouse its amazing. Well done Vicki for taking her at such short notice. I'm sure she will be snapped up soon.

Michty me, Larkhill Jo put it about a bit - he was also Mama Tina's dad (the dog that beat the car in a race on Top Gear). Mind you, he's fathered about 500 offspring, and some of those were from beyond the grave...

I see Sunny and Daisy both have the "nose dipped in paint that ran up my muzzle" look too though!

Yup, Larkhill Jo died in December 05.

And he is one of the many dogs with a wee note saying "frozen semen available"...

I had always thought Sunny and Daisy looked alike.

I've spent hours tracing Sunnys family on Greyhound Data does that make Sunny her Aunt or cousin I'm not sure either??  Daves the man to ask Are there any GAL dogs with Staplers Jo as Dad?

Hows it going finding a new foster home for Martha?

Isn't it just great checking out your dog's family tree - never fails to amaze. There's always a relative near by (it's a small greyhound world)!

Since she is obviously (and remarkably) mouse safe - do you think that she is cat safe?

One long road trip later, Martha has come to stay with Billy and I in Aberdeenshire. She certainly is a very friendly dog, she wants to cuddle up to Billy, but he'd rather be alone! She was very excited to meet my mum's Cocker Spaniel (not sure if Cockers count as small dogs?), but it seems she was just interested in him in a friendly way. She ignored a growly Westie, and just wagged her tail at a yappy Lhaso Apso. I now just have to see how she is on her first night here!

I'll keep you all updated on how she comes on, and here are some pics for now.

I want to get closer to you!

Let's play "I won't look at you if you don't look at me"

Well done you

Are you keeping her for good or are you just fostering her? They do look very alike when you see them next to each other

Awwww!

They look amazingly alike, but Billy has a super black and shiny coat compared to Martha. I couldn't believe the difference in their coats. Just shows you the difference good food and a proper home makes.

I hope they are going to be best of friends and that Billy doesn't mind sharing that huge collection of toys.

Martha met the vet today, she is on antibiotics for her toe, she will be going back next week for a progress check and to get neutered.

In the mean time, she's still trying to get closer to Billy...

At the moment, she is just a foster dog. I would like to keep her, and she has passed all the tests so far to stay, but I am concerned about Billy. He is quite the coward, and I have worked really hard to bring him out of himself. I don't want him to regress backwards because of a more confident dog, so it will depend on how he handles the next few weeks...

All the best to her and I am sure if she does not stay with you someone else will snatch her up. Nora

Hopefully it will bring Billy out of his shell more and give him more confidence. I know with my Millie, she was a coward too but coz she has the other 2 as back up now, she feels much more confident and is usually very outgoing.
