The Great Scottish Run - 10K and half marathon - takes place in Glasgow on Sunday 3rd September this year. Starting in George square and finishing up on Glasgow Green. My sister has kindly agreed to run for GAL in one of the races (not sure which yet, depends on her workload for training etc). So, if there is anyone else out there feeling like a challenge! there is an early bird fee for entry which expires on the 30th June - details are on the website below. http://www.runglasgow.org/senior/index.html and also on my blog spot
If anyone else is interested in attending or running for GAL it would be great to meet up on the day and hopefully raise lots of cash. I have added our details to the list of charities looking for runners and they should be up on the web site shortly. If you know anyone who is planning to take part in they event - perhaps they might consider running for us.
Hopefully we can get a few people taking part and have a good presence at the event.
My sister was looking after Harley for a couple of days last week while we were off to London to see Wimbledon (which was fantastic as we saw Andy Murray playing)...........
anyway she took Harley for a walk and posted off her application for the half marathon - and Harley then decided to give it his seal of approval by lifting his leg and christening the post box
Due to a change of circumstance I have decided to dust off my trainers and take part in the race - I will be doing the 10K, since I am a novice runner!!!
So, if anyone else would like to join in our GAL team just let me know! Even if you don't run you can still walk the 10K (which I may end up doing depending on how my training goes )
I have now created a web blog for the 10K race as I started my training today - I'm hoping this keeps me on track with my training (no excuses now!!)
If anyone is interested in following my progress of training (if maybe Big Brother is getting a bit boring now and you need some other form of mental stimulation ) you can log on and see what I'm up to. Also I have a serious alterior motive - MONEY!!
There is a link on the page where you can make a donation to our fundraising efforts if you so wish. Who knows - we may even pick up some donations from Cyber space.
Great blog Lorna - I had a look at it today, and am looking forward to following your progress. Good luck with the training (it can only get easier than today )
Two of my old colleagues and their husbands are going to run for GAL to raise funds - so we now have six people all together to make our presence felt. I'm really pleased as we are going to do a team fundraising effort. Hopefully we will pick up a few more people before September the GAL details are registered on the Great Scottish run website now.
Thanks Fiona - it is very good of them and we hope to raise a reasonable amount.
Just a wee reminder - the closing date for postal entries is 18th August - so still plenty of time to enter.
We have complete beginners to marathon runners taking part in the team so everyone is welcome to join in and run or even walk at your own pace. There are six weeks left to the race so still time to train and take part.
Keep up the good work Lorna. I couldn't run to the end of the street. You;re doing a fantastic job at recruiting too!
Just to let everyone know how GAL will be backing up the runners...
All runners will receive a GAL t-shirt to wear throughout the race. All runners raising by sponsorship (or donating) at least £100 will have their entry fees refunded by GAL.
We hope to have a GAL info stall there too and are just waiting to see if we're allowed to bring dogs.
Thanks - I'm having a BBQ this week for some of my friends so hope to catch some early sponsors there- will wait until they have had a few glasses of vino first Of course I won't be touching the stuff as I'm "in training" ...............
I managed to get a comment about GAL posted on the Evening Times Web page for the run - I thought they would just read my comment and maybe follow up if they were interested in doing a write up - but no they just published it ! It's just a short thing but hopefully will get some attention.
Thanks that would be fantastic - if you could enter the race as an individual applicant using the form you can download from their website http://www.runglasgow.org/senior/index.html.
We are planning to meet up possibly before the race and/ or after the event and will finalise details nearer the time. :
Could you email me your name and address and what size of T shirt you would like I will add you to our list of runners and send you sponsorship details.
Another bit of news - we now have someone running for us who is going to be dressed as Scooby Doo!! He ran as Batman last year doing both the 10K and the Half Marathon one after the other raising money for charity. The Evening Times Kindly put him in touch with me and suggested he might run for GAL since he likes running for animal charities.
So Scooby is going to be doing both races this year for us wearing a GAL T shirt
We now have ten in the team - hurrah! Only 3 weeks to go on Sunday
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who visited my stall at the GALA and gave messages of support to myself and the team. We now have 11 (possibly 13) people running as I managed to get a couple of new recruits on the day and two possibles to walk the route.
Fundraising - so far to date we have around £535.00 raised both on and offline - so that's great and thank you to those from GAL who have donated. If anyone is interested in sponsoring us
Lorna wrote: Have been misquoted slightly as they say we rehome Greyhounds and whippets (think they meant to put Lurchers) but hey ho, it's all good publicity !
**Dave goes off to prepare for an evening of phone calls about Whippets***
Yes Kirsty - it does but they are stopping the traffic you will be glad to know
I'm looking forward to running over the Kingston Bridge - will be a great view even though I'm scared of heights (I will try to keep in the middle of the runners at that point!!)
Yes I might be tempted to get the tube myself at that stage !! Not long to go now - eek!
We are having a GAL info stand at Glasgow Green in the Charity with some of the homeless dogs there too so we can meet up there afterwards
