hi, newbie to the forum here (although i have to admit i have done my share of skulking) but not new to Gal, I fostered Vinnie and Mr spoons last year.
i was having a wee break from fostering as i've just moved house and I'm in the last stages of doing a degree, but after seeing Dave's post about Ozzy, the old heart strings were pulled (i'm a sucker for a sob story!)i'm so glad i did now! i picked him up yesterday from Strathven kennels and he looked like a poor soul, he's a bag of bones and his legs and tummy are all red, sore and flaky as he's had mange.
he's been a total star since he arrived; no accidents so far, he's brilliant on the lead, no issues at all so far with other dogs and when i was bringing him home in the car it was easy to forget he was there as he just lay down and was so quiet (driving with the previous foster dogs initially was a nightmare as they wanted to sit on your lap!)I'm sure he's lived in a house before as he knew exactly what the couch was when he arrived and has hardly budged off of it since and he's mastered the stairs no problem.
he's had a bath this morning which has made him look 100% better already and he's off to the vets on tuesday for a wee check up.
i'll try to get some pics soon and i'm going to try to bring him along to the walk tomorrow (good excuse to get out of stydying for a wee while!)
I am so glad you have Ozzy. I was feeling so guilty not being able to take him as he some how drew me to him. Please let us known how he gets along and a piccie would be nice. Nora

Oz is continuing to do well. he has the nicest temperament and is such a sweetie. i was going to try to bring him along to Strathclyde park today, but just before we were leaving the thunder started & he refused to budge out of the door. he had to make do with a walk to bothwell castle later on (where we both got eaten alive by midges!)
The connection does not seem to be working it is asking for Email address and password to sign in. Why don,t you try Photobucket it is so easy even I can do it now. LOL Nora

Aww he is lovely and looks really happy already. The baldness will soon go. Blue was very bald when we got him after a couple of months of grooming it started to re grow. (Can't look at the photo's of him in the early days now - too upsetting)
Ozzy sounds as though he is in expert hands. Looking forwards to seeing his progress
Awwwww I think I,m in love what a sweetheart. My heart just filled up for him when I saw his pictures. Thank you so much for posting them, I know he is in good hands and will look a different dog in the near future. Please keep us updated on his progress. Nora

hi, just a wee update on ozzy...he was at the vets this morning and the vet said that apart from his coat and skin he's in good shape. he was weighed and came in at a healthy 29 kgs ( i thought he looked skinnier than that, but there you go!I can stop adding pasta to his dinner now!) when i had picked him up on Friday, Isla said that the vet she had taken him to had thought that had a wee bit of a heart murmer; i mentioned that to the vet this morning and he couldnt find anything like that....so it's all good! just a wee course of steroids for the next 10 days and he'll be as right as rain!
he's really coming out of his shell now and is becoming a bit of a character. he defo has traits of kleptomania; i've been on a bit of a health kick of late but after coming out of the vets this morning i decided to have a wee treat and get a danish pastry from the bakers. oz had got yummies from the pet shop (some god awful looking dried turkey thing) and everything was in the one carrier bag. when we got back home i put him in the house and left the bag down while i brought the bin round to the back garden, i was away for about 30 seconds i returned to him rooting around in the bag and looking very sheepish. had he eaten his own yummies??? NO! he ate my danish pastry! there was defo a bit of lip trembling going on on my part....ah well, a lesson to be learned there i think
anyone for more piccies? i've just got a new camera, once i've worked out how to use it the quality of the pics should be a wee bit better.
Awww, that last piccie is just gorgeous! And clearly he has brains as well as beauty, judging by his preferance for a juicy danish pastry rather than a doggie treat (which, let's face it, he most likely scoffed later in the day anyway.....).
Hi, he really is a handsome hound - totally gorgeous. That last photo with him looking at you was lovely as was the one of him bowing while eating something. Greyhounds really are good for you - they steal any naughty foods that you were going to enjoy and keep you walking thus adding to your health! lol
i totally agree with you emma, i cant understand why people dont like the black dogs, especially when they're all sleek and shiny (ok Oz is not quite there yet as he's still half baldy, but he's getting there! )
you're all right...he is a cutie isn't he! he's been doing so well the past week or so and has settled right in. i've been trying to toilet train him and it was a bit of a hit and a miss until saturday morning; he woke me up at 5.30 and i let him out of the back door, when he came back in it was lots of praise and treats for not doing his business inside, he got so excited, he was running all through the house into the garden and back again. it was like the penny had dropped and he was so chuffed with himself....awwwww
he's fab outside too, no issues at all with other dogs, especially the wee ones (which is a relief as Uddingston appears to be the Lhasso Apso capital of the universe!)
Oz was only supposed to be here until friday but after speaking to Dave i think i talked myself into keeping him until mid august....in fact i think i nearly offered to take another one until common sense kicked in so hopefully he'll be able to find a home before then. got some more piccies, he's becoming a bit of a poser! sorry they're a wee bit dark, had to use the camera on my phone as there was no memory left on the digi camera
Well done for doing so well with Ozzy! And the pictures are just great. You can see the difference in his photos now to how he was when you first got him. He's so much more relaxed now and even smiles for the camera! I think you could be right - he's becoming a real poser!
"Hamilton has it's fair share of Lazy Apsos as well. Or maybe it's the Uddingston dogs being walked here!"
day trips for the uddingston apsos? lol
oz has developed a new habit, when he's looking out of the window he's started growling and barking at people passing by. im not really concerned about this as he genuinley does like people and is really friendly when he sees them when he's out and about. i was just wondering if now he's feeling a wee bit more settled if he's becoming territorial. any ideas?
Hi, sorry about lack of Ozzy's progress in the past wee while, its been kinda hectic here! that's him been here for nearly 4 months now; I've not looked at the piccies of how he looked when he first came for ages...you wouldnt know he was the same dog! his hair has grown in on his tummy and legs and he's starting to lose all of the all old kennel coat and develop a lovely sheen.
it's taken a while, but he's he's developed into a real character and has so much more confidence now. when he first came he was so timid, he wouldn't approach for a cuddle and wouldnt give any eye contact, thats all changed and he's such a cuddle monster now! He just loves people (especially women with shopping bags..he must asscociate that with goodies for him!)
I've attached a few more pics, the quality is still pretty grainy as i've still not mastered the idiot proof digital camera i bought in june! they've been taken over the past few months, the last couple being the most recent.
there's also a bit of good news for Oz, we went along to meet a couple the other day and all going well, he'll be going to live with them in his forever home on Saturday. Awwww!
I was just wondering about Ozzy the other day. His condition looks so much better and it is fantastic news that he has found his forever home, he's such a lovely lad. Well done for bringing his character out and making him feel secure and loved enough to let you see the real ozzy...
it has been really rewarding watching Oz blossom over the past few months; if anyone is considering fostering, i couldnt rate it highly enough. its amazing watching them transform, almost daily, and seeing their real characters emerging.
I'm not sure about room for another just yet Gail, im back at work full time now and I'm desperate to get my new house licked into some kind of shape......but never say never....
