Here is Biscuit's first holiday at the beach down in Northumberland. A week of dry weather, clean beautiful beaches.
The only bum note was on our last beach walk yesterday at Bamburgh. Biscuit ran towards a group of 3 dogs at the water's edge in his usual playful manner, and one of the dogs ran for him and bit him on the shoulder. Could have been worse, it's a deep graze really with bruising, so salt water bathing will fix it.
He came back towards us, I had already been trying to recall him as soon as he sprinted, crying and limping. He's not a cry baby at all, so I think the bruising and fright was worse for him. By the time I had checked him and comforted him the owner had scarpered to the other end of the beach. Not that I would have been able to say anything to the owner, because if Biscuit was better on recall, it wouldn't have happened, but as a dog owner, I thought he might have just even asked how my dog was? I think it was a spaniel that got him, but it was all very quick. Austin said I was more upset than Biscuit, cos we do try hard on his recall, but he is so headstrong sometimes.
On the flip side, he had a great week, and did meet some friendly dogs.
LOL I've been laughing imagining Biscuit showing all his dog pals his holiday snaps. 'And this is one of me down a hole' 'You should have seen it, it was this Biiig!
AWWWWWWW! He is gorgeous, bother that silly dog going for such a sweetie. Looks like he has had a great time. Well done Biscuit and you just stay the same as you ever are a lovely little bundle of fun. Nora

Lovely photos of Biscuit, as always! Glad he wasn't too injured.
What is it with Spaniels??!! Our two on leads were minding their own business the other day and from a distance 2 spaniels came charging up more than once and really squealing, people turned round to look, as one sounded like it was getting murdered and our 2 weren't even touching them! The owners did nothing!
Really super pictures of Biscuit enjoying his holiday on the beach! Love the one of him, bum in air and digging a hole. He's as cute as ever when he's in full view! Hope he's recovered from his fright - spaniels huh - you'd have thought the owner would have asked how Biscuit was!
I have to say that I blame the SPANIEL OWNERS. Spaniels by nature are very friendly and gentle dogs (my family had a springer for years) but they need training and focus for all their energy as a working breed. It is people who buy them and don't bother working with them that are the problem. That's when you get trouble.
thanks for helping me out with my guilt, but I really knew there could be danger with a pack of 3 already doing their own thing. Biscuit is a very clever, confident dog, and does know all his commands, but at 14 months, his exuberance can get the better of us. He is great in the house and on the lead, even sitting at the kerb without a command. Off-lead he is about 85% responsive (some days it's 100%), and you can see him swaying from leg to leg, as the good and bad devils have an internal fight, about obeying.
I do feel guilty, and you just keep going over what you could have done better, because you want to protect them from everything. You also want him to have the sheer joy he gets from his freedom. We were trying to be careful in a new and exciting environment, and will continue to try our best to risk assess and learn.
Valerie, I'm sure you're doing a great job with Biscuit - please don't agonise over other people's inability to train/control their dogs. I know Biscuit was injured but, from what you say of him, I doubt it will affect his terrific personality.
I just love that pic of him with his bottom in the air, digging to Oz !!!
Biscuit is fine, and met some old friends around home today, which was good for both of us, because testing as he is, I wouldn't have him any other way, and want him to keep his confidence etc. Had to stop for two sets of kids to let them pat him, and he just stands there so good. The mark on his shoulder is drying up into a scab, and you can still see the bruising, but it will be fine.
Sorry this picture is big, but wanted to show the sheer joy he had on the beach for 99.9% of the time!
Oh I love seeing pictures of Biscuit. The ones digging are great. I know I've said it before but I really can't believe he is the same skinny sad looking little dog we met at Strathclyde park the day you took him home. You really are doing a great job with him, he is just stunning and looks really happy.
Hope to meet up with you again at one of the events soon.
Landess Sunny and Zoe.

Biscuit looks like he had a fab time. He does look so excited just to be alive doesn't he, I bet he's a real character, what a lovely dog you have Em,Tig and Chad xx
I've been posting pictures and progress since we got him in December 2005, so if you do a search on Biscuit (if you can be bovvered) you'll see the various threads relating to our experience since we adopted him. I believe he was a puppy that had to be given up thru ill health of the owners, and they asked GAL to rehome him as he is a lurcher.
Had him at the vet today for his annual booster, and she said his heart rate was slow, meaning we were keeping him fit. His dog bite was surprisingly clean and coming on, she said, so the salt water bathing has been sorting it. The vet loves him, cos he's so good.
