Piper's Progress

It's nearly three months since we brought Piper home. Several of you told me to expect a lot of personality changes in the first couple of months, and you were so right!

When we first got her, Piper was very passive, a bit dull really. In the past few weeks, her personality has gradually unfolded and she has become a lot more demonstrative, with big welcomes for all family members (even 14 year old daughter, whom Bonnie ignores or growls at) in the mornings or after absences.

The lovely thing is that she is a very happy dog, very positive - she even wags her tail in her sleep sometimes! She has become quite exuberant and excitable, very playful at times, but remains the cuddle monkey she was from the beginning.

I've been impressed with how much she has learnt, considering that she was fully grown and knew hardly any commands. She gets lots of walks, quite a lot off the lead (always muzzled) - her recall is pretty good as long as there are no major distractions... her stamina has increased visibly!

All in all, she is a total and utter delight, and great fun to live with.

It's really nice to hear this, and when you look back over the time and see all the positive things about Piper, it just shows how much they thrive in a loving and secure environment.  Biscuit "yips", cycles his legs and wags his tail in his sleep!  Still makes us laugh when it happens as we've been just sitting watching telly.

Happy to hear that Piper has settled well and her charming character is showing, it would be lovely to see photo. Nora

I am so glad Piper has settled down. I remember reading your post about small dogs and am glad that you seem to have turned a corner. Your daughter must be chuffed to have a dog that greets her as well

You must have got Piper around the same time as Neo arrived with us so we are probably at much the same stage. Neo was very laid back too when he arrived but now he is really showing his character. It's like every day you learn something new and it's wonderful to watch.

Glad your getting as much pleasure from Piper as we are from Neo.

I didn't realise Neo arrived around the same time! He's a bit older than our girl, isn't he?

I still don't trust her with little dogs, but have found a wonderful place to walk her where no little ones go - right behind the racing kennels there are extensive woods and fields.

Here's a picture that sums up what a comedy dog Piper is. This used to be Bonnie's chair, but not anymore... Piper is rather assertive (some would say pushy). and as Bonnie is more nervous and easily intimidated, I've had to protect some of her rights. Piper is not allowed in our bedroom at night, for example, as Bonnie sleeps under or next to our bed. The last sanctuary. Bonnie doesn't realise that Piper wouldn't take her under-bed space anyway, as she's not as bendable!

Neo will be 5 next week and he has just got a little playmate but i will post some pics shortly for all to see!!

He is a big boy and he never sleeps curled up so he takes up a lot of room on the bed. He grumbles and pushes his bum into me if he hasn't got enough room until i finally give in and move over...not sure if that makes me worse than him

Love the picture, she is a beauty and her colouring is great

What a great picture of Piper! She looks lovely - and it's wonderful she's relaxing and showing her personality now. It's great fun to see them begin to play and enjoy themselves.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of Neo and Sassy too, Gail!

Whar a brilliant pic, love it. It is so good to hear how piper has come on since first arriving with you. it really is a wonderful feeling when you see their personality grow and they come out of themselves.

She looks such a poppet.
