Im due to treat my dogs for fleas as a preventitive. Before coz i worked in kennels i was able to have access to vet treatments such as frontline for my dogs, but now i am no longer working there, i have to decide if pet shop treatments are effective and/or as good as vet treatments. In the past i have been told to keep clear of pet shop flea stuff and wormers as some dogs have become ill from it, but im sure i read somewhere on here recently that someone used flea treatment from the pet shop so thought it must be ok. Whats every one's opinion on this?
I know greyhounds very sensitive regarding things like chemicals etc so thoughth best to check first to be on the safe side
Think ive just found the answer to my question as found these 2 quotes from a previous post on flea treatments -
DONT buy the stuff out of pet shops as it really isnt remotely effective!!
And to reiterate the advice already given, get your wormers and flea treatment from your vets, the stuff in the pet shops is ineffective at best, total waste of money!

I always buy these things from the vet - ever since one of my cats had a sort of stroke following an over the counter wormer. Could have been coincidence - who knows - but I've never done it again.
If you can get the same products as from the vet cheaper online - so much the better.
I also always use the vet but am about to check out the website and order online, if the product is the same and it saves a bit then so much the better!!
We've always only bought flea and worm products from the vet as we have heard that the stuff from pet shops is ineffective and a waste of money. It's a bit like medicines for humans - the stuff you buy from supermarkets might taste nice (sometimes!) but doesn't really do much for you, but the stuff your doctor prescribes generally does the job.
UPDATE - just had a look at hyperdrug - looks much cheaper than vet. www.wormers.co.uk also looks pretty good, especially if you buy a couple of packs of frontline - save 15%.
Yep, I've just bought two 6-packs too. My crowd are about due their next treatment so am well chuffed at having saved so much on the Frontline. I've also just phoned round my family and told them about the two sites.
Jennifer, I'm just about to place an order for Frontline, just out of curiousity what delivery did you use? I was going to pay the £2.00 for first class post and wondered if that's what you did.

That's the way i'm looking at it Teresa, I've ordered a pack of six, so six doses at 6-8 weekly intervals. I'm thinking i would probably get away with the two months between treatments as Neo does not get walked where he is at a high risk of picking up tics but will probably just treat every six weeks to be on the safe side.
I currently use Stronghold but am changing over to Frontline as it seems more popular. Fiona gave me good advice as she uses it already for Harry and pearly and that's good enough for me!
I can't see you getting it any cheaper than the website, i thought their prices were great.
I love this forum - I just hit search, type Frontline and get all the info I need.... I know I am a bit late to reply to this thread but I just thought I would add that Hyperdrug.co.uk seems much cheaper than the wormers.co.uk site. Just ordered Frontline for Speedy as reccommended by my very expensive vet.. he is a bit itchy and is due for a flea treatment anyway..
