Welcome King Bear

Just had to say welcome to Jacky's new owners. Poor Jacky has been homeless for such a long time. So glad the stunning boy has got the loving home he deserves. It must have been worrying when he started lunging at other dogs. FAJ on here has similar problems with her big lad Harry (who is also beautiful and a big softie!) I'm sure she would love to swap notes and advice as she had a soft spot for Jacky. It does sound asthough you are getting wonderful support. Gal do offer a follow up service second to non

btw we love photos

Well done and congratulations on adopting Jacky, he really is one stunning dog and it sounds as though he has come on really well already, you must be doing a fantastic job. Siouxsie's advice will be invalueable to you especially in the first few weeks. Just remember that you are not alone, i have the same issue's with other dogs with my foster dog Sally and it sounds as though jacky is coming on much quicker than she is, but they will both be fine with some love and training.

The end result will be worth it when you see just how many people are bound to stop and comment on your gorgeous boy

Welcome!  I am so jealous!!!   I have always thought Jacky was an absolute stunner and have had a major soft spot for him.  I'd have had him in a minute!

He's a lucky boy and, as previously mentioned, I'm sure you'll get loads of comments on how striking and handsome he is!

Best of luck to you and I'm so glad that Jacky has finally got his forever home.  Congratulations and keep us informed on all Jacky's progress.  Oh, and don't forget the pictures!

I'm so happy, I feel like crying!! I'm so delighted that the gorgeous Jacky has a forever home. And in Edinburgh too, so we'll see him again!!

He's a gorgeous boy, and a very lovely one too. Amanda is right that Steve and I have had our moments with Harry, who is very similar in nature to Jacky. Their problems are down to a lack of socialization plus the not-small matter of their training to make them into what they are. But none of it means that they don't want cuddles or love or playtime or generally to have a nice quiet life with a soft bed to snooze on.

If you want to swap tips or hear what's worked with us then please feel free to mail us or post on the forum. It can be a shock to the system, taking on a more challenging dog - even if you're prepared for it. Truth be told, we still have our moments with Harry even after almost 18 months of having him. But the rewards are undescribably wonderful - we wouldn't change Harry for the world because he's our big daft boy and we love him.

Congratulations on your new family member! We love foaties, must have foaties, need foaties.....

Fiona

Just wanted to add my congrats on Jacky and his new owners. Fiona and I used to walk him quite a bit when GAL used the kennels near Kelty. We took the piccy that was used on the website too!

He was a lively boy then but really responsive to food so a few treats in the pocket will no doubt work wonders. In fact, I think he used to sniff out my pockets big style - hungry lad.

I reckon he's very similar to Harry in many ways eg the cats and other dogs thing. We also walk him only on lead and keep him muzzled but he's fine on that. We take him down to the beach very early sometimes and if the coast is clear and tide out he gets loose to gallop around. He has arthritis so can't run much anyway so walks on a lead is necessary for medical reasons too.

Another wee connection - our other one - Pearly - she's Jacky's cousin.

Hurrah all round!

Thanks to everyone for your kind words.  We'll hopefully meet some of you at the event on Sunday and you can pass on on your valuable tips. We're hoping to be there for the first hour.

Cheers
