Biscuit helps Dodge.........
Permalink Closed

Dodge being a 3 year old blond alsatian, just arrived in the neighbourhood 2 weeks ago.  We spotted him and his owners on a nighttime toilet walk, but the owners were clinging for dear life and clearly fearful to let the dog near any other dog, so I kept my distance seeing they were all new to each other.  Today, we met Dodge and his mum, and I said do you not want to let them say hello, cos Biscuit loves all dogs, but she said no ( chat conducted 15 feet away!), I'm too scared he will go for your dog (and there were other dogs and owners chatting nearby.  Another dog-owner said bring him down to meet the dogs, so with much trepidation, she agreed.  Dodge and Biscuit smelt each other, Dodge done a play bow, so I said to her, do you want to let them off, again she was nervous, but I said Biscuit is pretty fast and confident.

My boy was great - hared off with Dodge in pursuit, great fun!  Dodge's owner was just about in tears saying I can't thank you enough, and I said it's just great you are seeing another side to your dog, and I'm sure it will all come.

The owner said Dodge is a rescue German Shepherd with 2 previous owners, terrific with people and in the house, but seemed aggresive with other dogs, so she was so happy to see him play with Biscuit.

I think I was a bit nervous of the dog too, but I was reacting to how the owner was being with her dog, and when I saw Dodge do the play bow, felt I could take the chance to let Biscuit play, and luckily it paid off.  It was nice to know Biscuit helped another rescue dog to start settling in.

I really admire you Valerie for having the confidence to do what you did and i'm sure Dodge's owners will be eternally grateful and so will Biscuit having found a new friend to play with

Just shows what can be done when you have the ability to read another dogs signals and you know your own dog so well.

How lovely to hear of Biscuit's helpfulness. It was really kind of you to offer to let him play with Dodge. Little wonder his owner was all teary!

Just to say it wasn't a one-off, as Biscuit and I met Dodge and mum today (a happy mum going for her walk with Dodge) and him and Biscuit had a wee chase.  Mum is now letting him at least say hello to more dogs, and she seemed so much happier.  Just the trust growing was good to see.

Also makes folk appreciate what a great resource this site is with such support when you adopt, (I always big-up GAL when I talk to folk on walks) as she seemed to not know that much about his background except a stray at some point and 2 owners, so I'm sure she is bound to be a bit wary.

I'm sure Biscuit could be a play therapist cos he's really good at it!
