How is Sprite doing? I always feel so sorry for him when I see him on the website. He looks so skinny and grey (no pun intended). He looks like he could do with a big hug, lots of food and a comfy sofa to sleep on! Hope he's looking a bit better than the picture shows.
I wasnt quite sure where to post this, but here seemed the most logical
Hi Laura, Sprite is doing fine, he's one of my favourites! He's one of Rachels favourites too hence he's getting lots of 'house' privileges..lucky boy!
Awww Its nice to know he's alright and getting to enjoy life.
I dont know what it is but I seem to be seeing a lot of greyhounds around Linlithgow. Have you homed a lot here? Or is it just coincidence?! I saw a large black greyhound with white paws just up the road from my house, but unfortunately I never got to speak to the owner. Ive also seen a few brindles around.
I noticed that too Laura. When I first got Casper I rarely saw another grey or lurcher when out walking. In the last year/6 months I have seen a lot of greyhounds and lurchers when out and about. Even if they haven't been rehomed by GAL, at least the message that greys are lovely and in need of homes seems to be getting through. I doubt hounds will take over from labradors in Linlithgow, but heres hoping they continue to get more and more popular.

Sprite is a lovely boy, Graham and I collected him from his trainer to take him to Langbank in the summer. He was very well behaved despite the heat and a long drive. I am glad he is getting kitchen privileges as he is desperate to be back in a house. His trainer had managed to find him a home but the old guy who took him on was struggling so he went back to the trainer. When we stopped off at our house on the way over to pick up Tara and give him a comfort break he was very keen to get in the house, but I did not want to let him in as he wasn’t staying. I felt that it would be more upsetting if he did get in and then had to leave again in 10 minutes.
Is there any chance the person who currently has sprite could post up pictures of him? It would be very much appreciated.
We used to own him when he was racing and i am the boyfriend of the trainers daughter.
We got 'sprite' from the greyhound auctions in perry barr, he was tall, skinny, silverback bum as he pee'd the bed as a pup, a very scared dog who in his race was last out the boxes and finished 3. There wasnt a lot of interest in him but we got him and brought him up to scotland (was something about him). On the journey home he stood looking out the windows of the car the whole way up the road. (a trade mark for him that no matter what distance he never lay down while travelling.
The breader told us he never ate, hid all the time and was a strange little dog. It took months of training trial and error to see what he would eat and we soon got him eating food like it was going out of fashion. (chicken chicken and more chicken)
We named him spike but we understand why he was changed to sprite "a little less agressive name" we felt he looked like the cartoon dog spike from the rugrats.
Anyway the little quiet scared dog that no-one wanted soon payed us back with thanks by winning nearly all his races and holding track times that open class race dogs still to this day cannot match. He will be long remembered for his races giving away 12 yard head starts to other dogs and winning beating them a further 12 yards. Run with his heart he did.
It was due to a muscle injury that we retired 'spike/sprite' as he had won so many races running as "perry" that it was only fair to find him a home.
We did home him for a number of months where his owner loved him dearly but the owner began to struggle to look after him and as we want the best for all the dogs we took him back. However we had no room in the kennels to keep him and GAL came to the rescue and took him for adoption of which we are very appreciated.
We miss him loads my girlfriend particularly misses him it would put a tear on her eye to see some photos of him if you could try.
We took loads of pictures of him and i will post them up.
Hi Derek, gotta say 'Sprite' was a real credit to you guys when he was handed in to us, it'll be 12 months come March since we took him onto our 'books'. He's a real smashing dog with a great attitude, he's only got 2 problems which is why we've taken SO long to get him a permanent home, NO 1. is that he's Black, we really struggle to home the black dogs. NO 2. He's going a bit grey, folks don't beleive me when I tell them he's only 4!!..
These are the only piccies I've got of him, taken back in June last year, I'll get some more recent ones next time I'm over at the kennels, if you're ever heading over in the Glasgow direction let me know, your more than welcome at the kennels to see him again....
I think that Steve and I met you down at Glentress one day many months ago. We were there with our greys, Harry and Pearly (see avatar for piccie). It's impossible to walk past other greys and their owners without saying hello! If I recall correctly, the dogs were all excited thinking that they were going to a race meet because the car park was so busy and bustling with loads of mountain bikers. Ring any bells with you?

Dave thanks for the comments it seems so long ago when you took him and put him up on your site. The girlfriend was very excited on the offer of visiting him so im sure we will be in touch soon. Will bring back to black hair dye as well.
If you could post some new photos up of him we would be very appreciated. Keep up the good work.

Hi FAJ.
That was just over a year ago we bumped into you. My Mum says what a small world. We were down buying our xmas tree and took the dogs a walk up the track. This is where the photos were taken of spike and him with our retired dog dusty.
Your two looked great and i think because ours were jacketed up and seen other dogs they thought they were going to a race meeting. lol
Hope all is well and you never know might see you again this year.
I was the previous owner of him and miss him alot. Its nice to see how he is doing now and that he is still looking happy, I hope he finds a new home soon.
Thank goodness! I've followed his story for so long now and always hoped he'd find a comfy couch... Where is the greyhound rehome list? Is it on the website?

Thats the link for it. You just onto greyhound data and look on the adoption tab, then go down to Greyhound Awareness League, then there are 3 tabs, clilck on adopted dogs - shows you all the dogs there that GAL have rehomed Greyhound data (GAL's adopted dogs)
