I have seen a few greyhounds over the past few weeks but needed one that would utterly ignore my cats - Last Tuesday I was chosen by Speedy to become his new servant! Ex trainer not impressed with his new name as he is not a speedy dog! He has been with me for 6 days now and is settling in very well. He is not interested in the 3 cats but is muzzled when in the house alone... He is changing daily as he comes to realise that this is home!
Speedy has just about mastered "Bed" (His - not mine!) and "No!" (wrong bed Dopey!) We are now working on "Come" and "Stay".... I have just ordered the Training Guide and clicker set from the Gal shop so hopefully it will arrive before I make any huge mistakes! http://www.sparkimg.com/emoticons/cry.gif http://www.sparkimg.com/emoticons/cry.gif
Many thanks to Siouxsie and Glendy for replying to my original post last Monday. I had the carpet fitter organised to fit carpet to the stairs but Speedy mastered the polished wooden stairs up to the kitchen and living room on the first day so carpet fitter got cancelled. He has also negotiated the open stairs down to the garden - which I was told he would never be able to do! http://www.sparkimg.com/emoticons/idea.gif http://www.sparkimg.com/emoticons/idea.gif
He loves walks, destroying leads, the beach, cheese and of course his bed! The car is ok too as it gets us to North Berwick (Parents fab garden and beach!) Luckily Mum isn't wheezing when he is around and Dad has come round to Mum's suggestion that Speedy is preferable to my Ex.. Speedy also likes Hector's in Stockbridge where he accompanies me for snooze and a glass of something a few nights a week..
Today we went to the V - E - T for a check up from the neck up - all cool! We met Siouxsie there - we both thought she was fab! Looking forward to meeting you all for a walk in the park at the end of the month!
Well done on taking on Speedy! Good to hear that his vet check up was all clear and that he seems settled (on his bed anyway ) Im looking forward to hearing all about him
Fantastic news Claire, hope to see you down on the beach sometime and I can introduce Cas and Sasha to your new found friend Speedy. I live outside North Berwick and have monthly beach walks to socialise the dogs and hope you will join us one day. Nora

I have read my wordy-bit again and come to the conclusion I sound a bit of a hard cow but not meaning to really.. Speedy had to learn "bed" as he is quite large and I can't take any risks with 3 cats... One of them (Dotty) is pretty fearless (stupid?) and wants to get to know Speedy pronto - we all had a cheese sharing session earlier.. An other (Smokey) is not impressed but hungry - has eaten in front of Speedy a few times.. The boy-cat (Foxy) really doesn't give a damn so long as there is food and someone to admire him when he decides to turn up..
Speedy really is lovely! So laid back and lovin' it! Poor cats are missing out! They get masses of love when they turn up - Speedy is having to learn that he comes 4th in line after all the damn felines.. Dotty - young and stupid - still sleeps on her radiator bed in my bedroom and gets disturbed by Speedy when he wants to look out the window - hilarious! No scratched nose yet but it's long and inquisitive enough that it won't be long before his lovely nose gets scored.. I pray (not religious) that they don't get his eyes!!!
Speeds had his second bath tonight - loved it!! The kennel smell is slowly going - to be replaced by farty smells from demolishing a corn on the cob today - went through the digestive system in 5 hours!
We just off to the pub for a spot of social training (G&T glass lifting)...
Hope to see you all on walks in Ed and N Berwick soon.... I am usually in NB on Thursday afternoons - anyone free then??
My day off is a Thursday and would be happy to meet up with you and Speedy. If you want to PM me just click on my name and go into private message and send me where you would like to meet and what time. Nora (Click on MAX not Nora)
