Well, the fabby Freya has been with us for almost a fortnight and we are totally smitten! She is a beautiful gentle girlie and has fitted into family life really well and been accepted by the cats! Freya is still very wary around them but will now walk past them (sometimes she needs a bit of encouragement). She has been checked out by the vet and he pointed out what we had already noticed, that she has a very slight undershot bottom jaw - or should that be overshot upper jaw??! Either way she has a bit of an overbite, which just adds to her charm Have tried to show it in a photo. Freya also has the totally cute habit of forgetting to tuck her tongue in
Her eating is much better. When we first brought her home she virtually inhaled her food, vomited it up then ate it again Carol's advice was to put a mug in her bowl with the food. This slowed down her eating and now she has realised nobody is going to pinch her dinner she eats fine without the mug
We have only had one little wee on the floor so far and she lasts fine through the night.
Murphy and Freya seem to be getting along fine although Murphy still gives her the odd ticking off, mainly for jumping up at myself and Alan when she is excited. Pot,kettle and black spring to mind!! And yesterday Murphy and Freya played together in the garden for the first time, which was so nice to see. Normally what happens is Murphy runs around like a mad thing,play-bowing etc and Freya looks terrified and runs back to me! She still doesn't seem to want to play with toys-or Murphy again-and excuse my ignorance regarding rescue hounds, but is this normal? I know it's early days with her but it's a wee shame that she seems so reserved in that respect as she is only 14 months old and still a puppy really...
Does my bum look big in this?
Hey! Shove over a bit!
Freya is an absolute cuddle monster and likes nothing better than being petted-all the time if we let her For her first few days here she would cry if we shut a door on her, even if there was still someone in the room with her and tried to follow me everywhere. But she can now be in the room alone with Murphy for a quite a wee while before crying and then it's more of a whimper than a howl like it was before. Am going to try her without leaving Murphy with her and see if she settles at the weekend.
Freya has also had a couple of proper runs off the lead (in a secure area) now and seems to respond supprisingly well to her new name and generaly sticks quite close.
All in all she is a fantastic dog and we are very privileged to be looking after her
Freya is a lighter version of our Tom - isn't it funny how the brindles have those lines up the middle of their nose and over their eyes - makes them look soooo pathetic!
None of our lot know how to play. This was a surprise to me as I thought all dogs knew what play was. I guess tho, it's something they learn as tiny puppies and none of these were ever played with at such a young age. They do sometimes get to grips with it so persevere.
As for the undershot jaw, our Dave is well goofy too but, like you, I think this adds to his looks - makes him a bit different from yer average groo.
Give them both big hugs from the Sussex gang, xxxx
Murphy must have saluki in him? He's gorgeous I want Casper to have those fluffy ears, he only has the fluffy tail, and still not as fluffy as Murphys. Freya is beautiful too. They are a gorgeous pair.
I 'm looking forward to hearing more about them both.
Jane
