Hi All,


Today we were walking Dan and Sally on their leads around the woods across from our house. We regularly meet loads of other dog owners and dogs. Dan generally barks at them but we manage to catch a quick blether with the dogs mums and dads.


Today however we saw a bearded terrier in the woods who was a wee way down the trail. The beardy was obviously fascinated by greyhounds and stood their in amazement. So we had a wee chuckle when the dogs owner was shouting on the wee guy and not coming back. What happened next was really unpleasant. Dan and Sally are always on leads, as they can be a bit distracted and try to climb trees after the squirrels!


This guy then produced one of these really thin leads and started whipping the dog!! He was too far away to challenge at this point. Later in the walk the same thing happened and he started belting the wee beardy. We challenged him suggesteing (politely) that he may want to stop beating his dog and he just might be more prone to coming to him when called. He told us to mind our own f*****g business and stated that the reason he wouldn't come back was that Dan and Sally had mauled the dog the day before!!!! We challenged him on this, we've never met him or his dog before and Dan and Sally are never walked by anyone else, but he was generally abusive and stormed off, to do what I dread to think!!!


As a precaution Dan is now always going to be muzzled when going out so we don't get falsley accused of letting the 2 soppiest dogs on the planet maul another dog, but i was wondering what should we do?


Our friend has 2 border collies and we walk all the pups together and he was appalled too and states that he says he is going to warn all the other dog owners he knows to keep an eye on this guy as he seems really abusive and a bit of an arse to be honest.


What would you do?

Without any shadow of a doubt - report him to the sspca (I assume you are in Scotland, otherwise the rspca) and local dog warden, if you have one.  Then local paper, local radio etc etc. 


Next time you are walking there, take your camera too.


He shouldn't be allowed to own an animal of any sort and needs to be stopped as soon as poss.

I would tell as many local dog owners as you can, because most dog owners are responsible.  Word will soon get around, and I would also report to local SSpca as above.  Sounds like this man is "not the full Shilling".

What an arse. People who treat animals like that tend to be the same with people so it might not be wise to confront him. I would mention it to other dog owners and report it.

What a horrible man!  Poor wee dog, no wonder it doesn't go back to him.  I wouldn't either!!!


No doubt about it - if you can't take a thin, whippy lead and beat him with it then I guess it will have to be report him!

What a PRAT !  I think what has happened here is a case of embarrassment and guilt and the guy did not expect to be challenged by anyone on how HE chastised HIS dog, so when he was challenged he went straight into defence mode and spaffled a load of garbage at you. I would report him and ask other dog walkers if they have seen or noticed his behaviour before. Poor little dog and stupid him if he thinks that treating his dog this way would want it to be any where near him, hope he does not have a wife and kids and treats them the same way. Nora 


DO not feel intimadated by this sort of person and punish your well behaved dogs by muzzling them, your dogs did nothing wrong and neither did his little dog, the PRAT!!!!!! in question was the problem.

Yeah, we will tell other dog owners when we meet them. We'll report him too. I know a breeder who walks her dogs there too and i think she would just belt him, hehee.


The wee dogs only "crime" was that he wouldn't come to the guy. He wasn't running off or tearing anyone apart!

I agree with all you lot. I certainly wouldn't muzzle my own. And I'd definately report the incident and tell all other dog walkers. I would never let anyone intimidate me. Inside I may be jelly but tough on the outside! That poor wee dog needs to be taken from this man. You definately need a camera as proof but getting a shot without being seen could be tricky.
