Phil has been in America for the last week (due home tomorrow) A neighbour has kindly been trying to take Blue on his evening walk with his dog. For the first couple of days he was ok but as the week has gone on he has been getting more and more depressed and has been refusing to go out with the neighbour and wouldn't even take a biscuit from him which for Blue is unheard of. Blue is going to go mad when Phil comes in tomorrow.

I was wondering if anyone elses dog is like this and won't go for walks with other folk. Blue knows the neighbour well and quite likes the dog Trudy any tips to make he happier for next time? I have been carrying on as normal but it is quite upsetting to see him so down in the dumps

Millie can sometimes be like that. Not really the same situation but when my boyfriend walks the dogs with me, Millie is so mega excited to be walking with her daddy and i dont even get a look in. Although Millie loves me she much prefers my bf. When he is around, she is happy excited, loves walking beside him and will nuzzle her nose in beside him but when he's gone home, Millie looks as if to say "oh well, you'll just have to do".

I dont know if its coz her trainer/breeder was a guy. Once i had them down at Crammond and Millie was so excited to see this guy and kept following him. Normally she wouldnt do this as she's quite nervous around strangers so i reckon it must have reminded her of her trainer. She defo prefers guys to women.

I think it's really just that dogs latch onto one person.  They might love everybody in the household, but there's nearly always one person they love most.  As for Blue, maybe leaving a t-shirt of Phil's lying around, or anything else with Phil's scent on it, will help him feel better.

Harry and Pearly are funny in how they miss people. On Friday evening, Steve goes off to archery so it's just me who comes home in the evening. When I get in, Pearly is really excited and couldn't care less that Steve isn't there, but Harry looks and looks for him and is quite unsettled for quite some time. However, as the night goes on, Harry settles down quite nicely whereas Pearly starts to get antsy and won't sleep until Steve's home too.

I was away overnight recently and when I came home the difference in the dogs was apparent. Pearly couldn't wait for a cuddle from her mum and fussed round me for ages, whereas Harry couldn't wait to see what was in my shopping bags and whether there was something for him to eat! I've sure he loves me really.

It's similar in our house. When I come in from work I get a reasonable welcome...Jamie is always pleased to see people,Keera comes over for a quick cuddle and Gambol sometimes just lifts his head as if to say 'oh it's you'!! Now when Jim comes home it's completely different! They jump up as soon as they hear the car, start barking and jumping up at the door and when Jim opens the door he can barely get in. All three of them jump all over him and follow him about for about 10 minutes before they calm down! Must be a man thing!!

As there is only me and the kids it's not really the same but Sally definately gets more excited when my ten year old son comes home from school than Neo does. If we all come in together, Neo will get all excited and run to me for hugs and fusses whereas Sally will always greet Ryan then the baby and then me with equal excitement but it's obvious she is the kids girl

Phil is back and Blue still has to be made to go on his evening walk.

I think it is a combination of 2 things. The fireworks and the dark. Fire works have always spooked Blue but the dark is a new one. In certain lights we can see a slight clouding in Blues eyes (only just noticed this) and he seems scared of the shadows in the dark especially when it's windy and the trees are blowing.

He is due his booster so will get the vet to have a look at his eyes as well. I tell you he causes more worry than my 3 children put together lol
