Greyhound Awareness League - CHRISTMAS FAYRE AND DOG SHOW

drum roll pleeeeaaazzzzzeeee.....

OK Folks, it's that time of year again, the clocks have gone back, it's getting colder and darker outside and our high streets are slowly being festooned with large green sparkly things...that can only mean one thing...YES....It's time to announce the GAL Christmas Fayre and Dog Show!!

GAL will this year be holding our Christmas Fayre and Dog Show at the usual venue, Langside College, Glasgow on Saturday 25th November (LURCHER DAY) and Sunday 26th November (GREYHOUND DAY)

All our members and supporters will be receiving invites in the post in the next few days but I'll go over the important boring bits here....

Doors open on both days at 11AM, this year there will be no pre-booked tickets available, entry to be paid on the day which is £3 per dog (NOTE: Your ticket is valid for BOTH days of the show). We'll also be forgoing the pre-registration for classes this year, it's simply pay as you enter the ring, cost is £1 per dog per class.

We'll have our usual array of wonderful classes, 12 on Lurcher day and 10 on Greyhound day so there's something for everyone. There's Rosettes, Medals and Certificates for the first 6 dogs placed in each class with the winner of each class going through to our BEST IN SHOW final and a chance to win a wonderful trophy and prizes (plus bragging rights for the next 12 months!)

For those of you who like to treat your best buddies, Lorna will be happy to show you her wares (easy tiger) at the GAL shop, we've many special and unique items for you to ooh and aah over this year so remember to bring your Credit Cards, Piggy Banks, Kids pocket money and any loose change you can find down the back of your sofa. You'll find something to suit all budgets!

As usual we'll have our very own GAL Cafe with a huge selection of mouth wattering grub on offer, and don't forget we'll have Raffles, Prize Draws and a few other surprises in store

Finally, the reason why we do this will be there in the shape of a number of homeless dogs, the weekend gives them a great excuse for a day out of their kennels meeting their luckier friends who've already found their forever homes.

Last year as a treat for the 20 dogs in our kennels we ran our ENORMOUSLY sucessful 'Christmas Box' Appeal and we'll be doing this again this year. What we ask you very nice people to do is to find a box and pack it with some nice christmas presents for the homeless dogs, toys, treat, blankets, coats, collars, leads..etc..etc..you name it we'd happily accept it.

Everything donated in this appeal will go direct to the current 20 dogs in our Langbank kennels and the inevitable hundreds that will follow through the course of the next 12 months. Your boxes can be handed over at the Christmas Show.

Visit the GAL main website for more details on our show or email our events co-ordinator linda@gal.org.uk

Right, thats me, I feel all festive now I'm off to have a mice pie.

Dave, I have some serious doubts about your diet!

As for the Christmas Box, mine is 3/4 way to being ready, just a few odds and ends left to go in!  It's even got it's Christmassy paper on!

Dave

Even my cats think mice pie is waste of a good mouse! Speedy is not so keen on dead mice but did dig up Mums garden looking for a live mouse yesterday - She not impressed! I got a free posh plant tho so I don't mind...

Looking forward to the fayre. Getting all excited at having a clear out of blankets etc too.

(FAJ whispers to all GAL forum members)

Guys, I think Dave's lost the plot a bit. First he was peeing on Joyce's leg, now he's eating mice. Let's just keep an eye on him for a wee while.......

LOL, Do you think he is spending so much time with Grey's that their behaviour is rubbing off on him....

Don't worry too much Dave, Sally is parcial to the occasional mouse as well

Some of you will be pleased to know that the Young Gang Missy, Zak, Dusty, Max and me won't be able to come this weekend. Everyone have fun, enjoy yourselves and raise loads of money for the hounds.

Katrina.

Just wondering if anyone knew what sort of time the homeless dog parade was on at? I am going tomorrow with Casper and Milly, but am getting a lift there and then picked up later so want to make sure I don't get picked up too early and miss the parade. Thanks

We enjoyed the Christmas Fayre on Lurcher Day today! Dixie the Minx came 6th in the Best Juvenile class and Vegas was 5th in the Best Veteran class. It's always great to catch up with everyone and have a chat about all our dogs too! I'm looking forward to seeing who all the winners are, particularly Best in Show! I wasn't always around when the winners were announced.

Best wishes and luck to all going to the Greyhound Day tomorrow.

Christine

What a great day and, more importantly, what a great turnout.  Another year, another fantastic effort by the organisers.

Congratulations to all the class winners - all the dogs that were there today looked fantastic and I'm quite sure yesterday's entrants were the same.    All the rehomed dogs are winners really though.  Here's hoping there are a number of homeless dogs that have become winners this weekend!

Sorry folks - I really did try my hardest to persuade the other half to let me bring home a fourth.

Only managed a couple of photos today but here are the ones that I got.  Claire, got one of Speedy which is quite fun and I don't know who the wee lad and pretty brindle belong to but it was a lovely picture of the two.

Here are the pictures of the Lurcher day winners.

Hopefully someone who took notes of the names will be able to edit the post to put them in.

I also have loads of the pictures, but as I took over 200 it may take a while to get them all uploaded.

Fantastic pics. Can anyone confirm that the dog going to great the one lying down in the "dog the judge would most like to take home" with the boy in the grey top is Blue (prev Sparticus) our old foster pup. It looks like him but sooo beautiful and sleek not the wooly pup with horrid kennel coat we handed over.

Hello all!

Just to say many thanks for a super day out at the show today (Sunday).

We were especially chuffed as Myrtle got 3rd in the veteran class!   What's more, Cookie and Cleo (Myrtle, overcome by her earlier success, had "done an Elvis".........left the building........ so didn't join us!!) got a 6th in the Happiest Family event!   All I can say is the judge obviously didn't know our family (we had to withdraw our entry one year cos Cook and Clee had had a fight a few days previously resulting in a chunk out of the ear of one and stitches in the neck of the other!!!!)!!   As for Scooby (our shepherd cross) - well, he gets so upset at these things (whines, cries, creates ...........and that's just us...........!!) that he has to stay in the car!

I still reckon we could win Dog owner would most like judge to take home and Dog most likely to cause fight in empty house!!!   Maybe next year!

Anyway, really looking forward to seeing the photos (especially as we forgot our camera!).

Thanks again for a wonderful day out!

Jean and the gang

Thanks to all who made yesterday such a great day! It was amazing seeing all the dogs in that big hall, most of them just lying about chilling out. Dan did us proud again, despite his almost constant barking, getting 2nd place in best veteran really made our day. Both Dan and Sally were asleep in the car before we'd left the car park, so much excitement!!! It was a brilliant day. If there had been any cat safe homeless hounds I'm sure they would have found a home with Dan and Sally.

It's lovely to hear how much everyone enjoyed the Christmas Fayre.  Lorna and I were flat out in the shop all weekend, so we didn't get to see any of the classes.  Congrats to all the winners.

Hopefully Dave will let us know soon how many dogs were homed and whether many applications were received.

Well done to everyone who participated, and thanks to all the volunteers who helped!

Here's to the next one!!!!!!!

Congratulations to all the winners on both days.

Didnt get to see much on Lurcher Day when i was there so was good to see Claire's wonderful photos for the Saturday. And wasnt able to make Greyhound Day so thank you Eoin for your lovely photos of the entrants and winners.

Noticed that Daz must have done his Dad proud with his best sit/down win and also to Best Family winner Tilly & Drummer (and not forgetting Debbie)

Well done all you worthy winner and all the others that were there both days and behaved impeccably.

Yes, thanks to the organisers for their very hard work in making such an enjoyable experience.  The baking in the shop was lovely, the items in the GAL shop were hard to choose from and we're delighted with our little pewter greyhound and our GAL calender.  Peter had a great time taking Daz into the ring to show him off and you're right, he was dead proud at Daz's prize and we've heard little else since we got home ;)

Lovely to meet so many other hounds and their owners and a great sense that even though I didn't know many people before I arrived everyone was a 'friend' because we all share the love of the greyhounds :)

Kathy
