Wilma was taken to the vets this morning to get her filthy, rotten teeth cleaned. I've been up to high doe with worry about her, as it was a problem with the teeth that highlighted Freddy's illness.
So, anyway, I kept myself busy at work, and after lunch decided to ring the vet to make sure she was ok. The vet came on the phone and I said "I'm just phoning to check that Wilma is ok". There was a silence and he said "I'm so very sorry. We found a series of secondary tumours in her lungs." At this point I was hysterical (as you can imagine), and started telling the vet that he must be wrong, it must be some kind of sick joke. Eventually I asked what the prognosis was, and he said that, basically, we would make her comfortable, and that it would be difficult to say how long she might have left.
Chas happened to be in the building I work in for a meeting this afternoon, so my friend went and grabbed him out of the meeting. We were both in floods of tears, and debating how long do we let her suffer for, etc etc. Chas then picked up the phone and said that he was ringing the vet back, just to check. With that the vet said "Oh Wilma? I'm so sorry, I thought you said Willow! Wilma is absolutely fine - lovely clean teeth and a perfect bill of health"!!!!!!!!!! He was sooooo apologetic! With all the wind & rain their phones have been playing up, plus the general noise that happens in a busy vets surgery and he had misheard me!!
I'm desparately sorry for Willow's owners - poor thing - but at least my girl is safe! I can't wait for 6pm tonight when I can pick her up. What a rollercoaster of emotion!! Can anyone beat this for a day and a half?!
Sharon & a colgate-smiling Wilma

Sharon, what an awful thing to happen, you must have been in such a state.
Thank god she is fine but as you say what a shame for Willow's owners, but hopefully the diagnosis was not as much of a shock to them and they were at least a little prepared for bad news.
bet Wilma will be smiling all night now just to show off her shiny teeth
What a fright you must have got ,but when you found out the error what a relief. My vet always asks for the surname first then checks on the computer the address before saying anything about the dogs, a much safer method and saves any mixups. Shocking ! Nora

good grief, what a terrible experience for you. I can only hope that Willow's owners had some idea of what might be wrong with her so, with any luck, they weren't in the shock you were !
What an absolute nightmare! That must have been the worst experience of your lives. I agree, perhaps a little more care before imparting news so they are sure they have the correct family!
Poor Willow, and her poor family. Not nice for them either - thoughts are with them.
What a huge relief for you though. Good job you don't have a weak heart.
That is a really shocking mix up at the vets - imagine if you had told the vets just to put her to sleep to end her suffering? Thank goodness that Wilma is ok and i'm sure has a beautiful big white smile.
My heart goes out the owners of Willow. Its a sad day for them.
Delighted that Wilma's been given a clean bill of health! But what a shock you've had - poor thing! Hope to see Wilma soon with her perfect set of gnashers.
