Indiana is in the habit of eating the soil from the plants in the house. Can anyone say why he is doing this? Is he missing out on some vital nutrient? Help!
What do you feed Indiana on and what are the mineral level of the food - it can sometimes be a mineral deficiency that can make a dog eat soil, or if he is on a good complete food then his body might not be absorbing the mineral content as well as it should be.
Thanks for replying. Indiana is on 'Hill's Science Plan Nature's Best' dry dog food for breakfast which contains calcium 0.99%, phosphorus 0.81%, sodium 0.46%, potassium 0.74%, protien 27.6, fat 12.9, fibre 2.8, ash 6.5, moisture 8%.
For dinner he has either pasta and peas or rice and peas, with either liver, lamb mince, tuna, or corned beef.
This has been a trial and error with us in terms of his skin. He had terrible dandruff when we first got him and had loose stools. This diet suits him the best but I am worried he is missing out on something since he is eating the soil.
on a serious note, I have found that a tablespoon of natural yoghurt, once a day in their dinner, makes the poo much firmer. Our gang have had no problems since I introduced the natural youghurt.
Just to let you know that I used to feed my Sascha (8yr old female Grey) & Alfie (4yr old male Lurcher) on the Hill's Nature Diet but I had to stop as Sascha started to pee herself even lying in her bed & the Vet got me to change her diet. I can't remember what it was that he found in her urine sample. If you smell the food it smells as if it is highly flavoured/salted. They are both now on Ardengrange Dry food which you can buy in a few different flavours.
Rosie has started eating soil over the past week or so. She is on Arden Grange. Whenever she is put out in the garden she eats the soil from the pots. Any ideas how we can stop her? And will it do her harm?
