Many of us have dogs who are terrified of fireworks and with it being Hogmanay we’re about to have to cope with another night of stressed dogs. This stress shows itself in different ways depending on the individual animal and the degree of panic they suffer.

If those of us with camcorders etc. made a recording of our dogs and how they reacted during an episode of “fireworks” and then sent the recordings to the relevant government body, it would let them see exactly the suffering that goes on. Let them see normal, everyday, well adjusted dogs become quivering, panting wrecks, trying to dig through the kitchen floor, or worse, dogs in such a blind state of panic that they physically injure themselves. I, for one, have a dog that is particularly bad and on a couple of occasions (when I haven’t managed to get back in time) have come home to something resembling a “chainsaw massacre”. I would be prepared to film a few moments of this (before I intervened with his usual medication) if it would bring us closer to a complete ban on fireworks.

What do you all think about this idea?  Being a numpty with camcorders (I would have to borrow one) I don’t know if this would be a feasible thing to do in the first place, but if it was do you think it would be worthwhile and if so who would we send the recordings to?
