On the 13th January last year I was going to meet a greyhound called Ziggy. All I knew from Dave was he's nine years old, the woman didn't know if he was neutered and he was good on the lead.
I was greeted at the front door by an elderly lady and the gentlest and sweetest black greyhound. The lady was looking after him for her daughter who unfortunately had terminal cancer. The lady was elderly and said she couldn't really cope with a dog as well as dealing with her daughter's illness. We talked for some time about Ziggy and how her daughter came to have him and how it was difficult for her as her daughter was so ill she didn't want to tell her Ziggy was going to a new home. When it was time to go, it was very upsetting as the lady clearly cared for Ziggy. I assured her he'd be well cared for and he jumped into the back of the taxi with me without any hesitation.
The last 12 months have been wonderful and Ziggy is a special old man who I feel lucky to have in my life. He's 10 now and has a lot more grey than a year ago. He's a lazy guy who loves to sleep but can run like the wind when the food bag opens.
Thats a nice story. Ziggy is a lucky boy to have landed with you and im sure the daughter would be pleased knowing that her dog had gone to a great home with 2 fur friends
Happy gottcha day Ziggy

Lucky Ziggy to have such a loving home. We've also had a ten year old greyhound called Patsy for about a year now (all Carole Robinson's fault!!!). She has been a complete joy to have around the house, so loving and although she can sleep for Scotland she loves to run around the fields along with the other two.
So for anyone thinking an older dog might be quite boring - it's just not the case.
Happy gotcha day Ziggy! It's quite sad when dogs are aquired through these kind of circumstances but I'm sure his previous owner would be glad to know he found such a loving caring home. Big hugs from Dan and Sally xxx
Ziggy, Happy Gotcha Day! Jenny - well done for taking the lovely hound in. Have you thought about sending a letter/some photos to the lady you got him from - I am sure she would appreciate it!
What a sad and happy story! So glad Ziggy found such a loving home. I always think that it's the ultimate act of love, to be able to give up a much loved member of the family when circumstances mean that you can't care for them properly yourself. I hope I never find myself in that situation, and hope that I can make the right decision if I do!
Anyway, maudlin bit over. Happy gotcha day when it comes, Ziggy! Hope you have many more!
