I have to agree with Jennifer on this one.

Maybe its because I work in a rescue centre and see roughly 100 dogs a day sitting in the kennels, waitin for that right home.  So many of them dont cope, lose weight, go mad because of it all, and each time someone goes to a breeder, one of the dogs waiting in rescue has lost out.

If its a certain breed, why not get in touch with breed rescue's and wait to see if they have any pups.  Or even if it is a pup, rescue's have them.  Sometimes you have to wait, but I mean isnt it worth it when you get the pup home, and they become a member of the family. What would of happened if this pupppy had ended up somewhere, where they pts after so many days. He wouldnt be here today, would he.

I have 4 rescue dogs, I love them so much, and im glad that they were the ones chosen to come and live with me.  Some dogs arent so lucky, why not give these rescue dogs a chance.  All they askin for is a little bit of love

Look what happens when I don't log on for a few days.

Gail your puppy is very cute.

I must admit at first I was shocked at yet another bought puppy. I have my own feelings about breeders and bought dogs. But as a mum myself Gail I understand your feelings for your children.

I think people get so upset at the thought of all the great dogs in kennels being over looked for the sweet little puppies. You know how passionate we all get about greys and how it breaks our hearts at the ones that have sat in kennels forever.

Personally if i could have another dog it would be a full grown greyhound but thats because my last puppy (14 years ago) was a nightmare and I don't grudge you all that chewing, sharp little teeth and weeing everywhere. Oh the joys of puppy owning.

Gail I can understand you getting upset and thinking the comments were an attack on you but I also think its nice to see a lively debate going on as so many posts are so repetative and lets be honest some are quite boring.  The problem with posts is people can't pick up on your tone or sense of humour and posts can be taken the wrong way.

Hope its all going well with little pup.

Landess

Thanks Landess, yes everything going great so far in fact he is even whimpering at the door to get out which i think is fantastic for him to be doing that already Ok admittedly i'm biased but he really is very clever He's mastered getting upstairs but has no idea how to get back down

I agree with your point about another fully grown grey, if i was having another dog for me then that would be my choice too but i still have work to do on Sally's reaction to other dogs and men but hopefully someday

I do appreciate how passionate everyone feels about rescue dogs, and it hurts that people assume i don't feel the same but as you know i would not be without Neo and Sally and it was that same passion that brought them into my life but i am just as passionate about doing the right thing for my children and will never regret giving them this opportunity in their lives.

I contacted breed rescues months ago in the hope of giving a home to a rescue pup but there were none available, and i am aware that waiting for the right dog to come along is the moral thing to do but as you will know that is not always possible when it is for a child especially when he has already waited for months with no hope of one coming along.

I do understand and appreciate how people feel, in fact i agree with most of what has been said but first and foremost i am a mum and i will always put my child's happiness first.. My son visited the library and put a lot of thought into the breed of dog that he wanted as his own and i respected that and would do anything in my power to see him happy.

At the end of the day i know that i tried to rescue a dog first but my decision was made........i wanted a whippet pup for my son, there has been none available in Scotland since i started searching months ago. A lovely little pup now has a fantastic loving home and my son has a smile from ear to ear and that is all that matters to me. As i have said before, sorry if that offends anyone but the light in my son's eyes is enough for me to know that i have done the right thing as his Mum

Your pup is very cute but it would be a rescue dog for me every time. Even if I wanted a specific breed which rarely came up in rescue, my conscience would not let me put my 'wants' before the 'needs' of a rescue dog, so would adopt a rescue dog instead, even if it meant that it wasn't the particular breed I wanted.

As i have already stated i feel you have to be a lot more specific when the dog is to be cared for and walked by a child, maybe if more people really put a lot of thought into that there would be a lot less dogs finding themselves homeless when the kids can't handle them.  In fact my son "wanted" a whippet because he loves the Grey's so much but they are far too big and powerful for him to walk, he understands the responsibility that comes with owning a sighthound but will be much more in control with the smaller breed.

I actually believe all dogs have "needs" whether they are rescued or not, little Logan was already on this earth, to me that means he deserves as much care and love as any other dog who was unfortunate enough to be badly treated and end up homeless or abandoned.

I wonder, would your conscience allow you to put your child's "wants" before the "needs" of a rescue dog??

Mine certainly does and i am proud of it

Logan looks scrumptious. Glad Neo and Sally are enjoying his company as much as you and your kids are.

Gail

Logan is gorgeous! At the end of the day we all want the homeless pooches to get a home but ALL dogs deserve a loving home and your son will be a very responsible adult in years to come because he will learn very valuable lessons along the way. He will no doubt grow up following in your footsteps and rescue greyhounds for himself!!

Good luck with Logan and here's to very many happy times ahead.

And the race is on to find the best Logie Bear lookalike (on a giant scale of course!)...

How do you think Indiana compares?  Gail, your new puppy is absolutely adorable and no doubt it is the best decision for your family.  I bet your son is having the time of his life right now.

Alexis, i give Indiana 8 out of 10 in the look-alike stakes I know he is already gorgeous but any chance you could just paint a bit more white on his back legs and he will win hands down (oops, sorry, should that be paws down) LOL
