It's only been 2 weeks since Eddie came to stay with us! It feels like forever - in a good way! He's settled in so quickly & so well!! I thought I would give you an update on his progress .....
We've been to see Charlie the vet! Didn't mind the man himself, but really wasn't keen on the surgery! Too many dogs and cats there for Eddie's liking! A dose of antibiotics later and the stomach infection is all cleared up! (Incidentally, the vet did say that every other dog that is coming in to see him at the moment has a dose of the runs ... there must be something going about! The vet did say the stress of moving to a new home may have left his system low and therefore more vulnerable to any bugs flying about! Certainly we've not noticed any food missing so I don't think he's had anything to eat that he shouldn't have!).
Eddie wasn't overly keen on his own bed when he first came, and tried at every opportunity to get on the furniture! We thought about handing him back because of this (no, not really, but couldn't resist saying that!!!!! hee hee). Green safeway boxes cover the chairs and he's now quite content to sleep on the floor or in his own bed!
He's got the hang of pee-ing & poo-ing after meals, and again at bedtime! He doesn't even so much as glance at the rabbit in his cage anymore! (thank goodness for water pistols eh?!). One of his favourite spots for lying is just infront of the patio window - the sun streams in and warms him up quite nicely! This was him at about 10am this morning ......
He talks in his sleep! You know how dogs twitch when they're sound asleep and you occasionally get a whimper as they do it, he gives a full growl and grumble! It's quite funny!!
He's very quickly learnt that if you lie down and wait when you're told, your breakfast & dinner appears before you much faster than if you stand about and whine!!
Don't get me wrong - he's not perfect! We have a long way to go in his accepting of other dogs! We've got a gentle leader now, and hope to progress to using it when we're out (just now we're getting him used to wearing it!). He tends to follow you wherever you go, which can be quite annoying sometimes! We're getting into the habit of closing a door behind us if we leave the room, but when you're only walking across one room & he's up behind you! He'll end up with his toes stood on one of these days! I'm trying to be a bit more hands off with him, as it's me that he follows more than anyone! He tends to only do what I tell him to do - so Chas is trying to "be in charge" a little more (but only because I'm allowing him to be in charge!!!!!). He does seem quick to learn and is desparate to please you and be fussed, so I'm sure he'll come around soon enough!! (that's Eddie, by the way, not Chas! )
Hopefully we'll see some of you at the walk next Sunday - his first, big, main outing with all of us!!!
With love

He looks lovely and very happy lying in the sun! Our new dog sounds just the same, follows us about everywhere, especially when he thinks food might be in the offing but he's settling down a bit now and only follows us when we go near the kitchen (or in his case, the place where treats are kept!) Perhaps it's a settling in thing.
I just had to provide a very quick, proud moment .......
Chas was cleaning out Bunny, and he was in his run in the garden. eddie spotted him from the living room and he started to howl and whine, desparate to get out of the patio door! I ignored him and after only a couple of minutes the howling & whining stopped! Admittedly he stood in front of the window for a while long waiting to see if he could get out! After about 10 minutes he came and laid by my side and ignored the rabbit outside the window! I was soooo pleased!!
Since Eddie arrived we've kind of put of the run around the rabbit cage, to prevent him from getting too close to the rabbit. We've now removed this from the cage. Yes, Eddie is interested, but he's certainly not howling and whining anywhere near as much as he has done before. Real progress!!!
I told you Bunny was a great dog trainer (see "Another Birthday" in Announcements!!)!

I'm not sure you would call what Neo does in his sleep talking, it's more like an old man grumbling...love listening to him though.
Sharon, looks like Eddie has settled really well and is already a big part of the family. How is Wilma with him now that she probably realises he is not just a visitor? Love the pic of him soaking up the sun, he really is a gorgeous boy
Eddie looks like he's settled in well and certainly found his favourite spot on the carpet judging by the photo! The first few weeks is always exciting finding out about a new dog ( and quite stressful ) But certainly sounds like you've got it well in hand. Hope things continue to progress well. Hopefully be able to make it to the next glasgow walk so look forward seeing you there.
So glad Eddie is settling in and doing so well. Mason doesn't so much talk in his sleep than "woof, woof". When he first arrived he woke me up a couple of times doing it and I thought he was barking at something outside. I'd rush through to see what he was barking at only to find him unconscious on his back on the sofa, paws twitching, woofing away to himself.
Eddie looks lovely, and just so comfortable, love to see pics like that! Timmy howls and yelps in his sleep, I used to go running thinking he was ill, but he sound, no doubt dreaming of rabbits!
Sharon and Chas, He looks sweet and I'm sure you'll forgive him for following you Sharon- he is such a handsome boy. He looks just like my Chad and certainly sounds like he has a similar personality. Chad follows me to the extent that Kev and the boys call him 'Mum's boyfriend'. and yes I call him boyfriend too but not outside anymore after a man gave me a very strange look! As for being keen a lovely blue cat lives opposite us and it comes across the road and sits on our window where it can tease Chad a treat. After a vase of valentine roses took a tumble we now have to shut the blinds if it comes back! Good luck with him I hope he fits in a treat in the Sunny spot Em (and Chad) xx
