Last night was dog training night and I had Zak (we swap over so we both get the same training experience with both dogs).Zak is very well behaved at dog training as a rule, though he does have a bit of a woof at some of the other dogs.We were doing the recall and as Zak behaves well we do it off the lead.Zak can even do the run up and sit at your feet.I then lead him back round to my side with the treat, give him the treat and then we start gain.
We had ended up at the far end of the hall just in front of the guys who does the shop and takes the money as it was quite busy.I had done a few recalls and was at the point that Zak was at the far side of the hall from me.I called him to me and he did his usual enthusiastic run with all legs everywhere (it’s a wooden floor). He also did his usual sit when about a meter away and allow his momentum to bring him to a sit at my feet, very funny to watch. This time though it was either slippier, or he was running faster and he ran into me.Who would have thought that a greyhound nose was at stomach height?I made that funny Ooof sound and nearly fell over Zak, who was oblivious to this and waiting for the next bit.Of course then I looked at the shop guy and he was trying not to laugh which gave me the giggles. You wouldn’t believe how hard it was to do the rest of the recalls.Zak wait, good wait etc with the giggles. We managed though more due to Zak than me.
Would have loved to been a fly on the wall - they are such big clumsy lumps greyhounds - that's prob one of the many reasons why we all love them soooo much!
Zak's not daft !! He no doubt realised he had left too little stopping distance and used you for a soft landing!! I've seen Biscuit turning his shoulder at the last minute like a rugby player, whilst I try to side step it!! Great to see Zak is so eager tho'
