I have just submitted a letter (email) to the Scotsman, commending L&B police for their action in apprehending the beast who beat the spaniel, and pointing out that this highlights the different laws the police apply in dealing with thier personnel and lay people, with reference to the lack of outcome in the case of Bushmills Major. I'd appreciate it if any of you in the edinburgh area could look out to see if it is printed, eg in Evening news? Also if there is any response? Cheers, Fiona
I have also posted this on the police website in the section for appreciative comments, just so they are aware that Major has not been forgotten: 'L & B police are to be highly commended for so quickly tracing and apprehending the man who carried out a brutal attack on a spaniel, 6/3/07, and ensuring he will account for his actions within three weeks. This act sickened a large section of the population. Sadly, the reassurance the public feel in seeing the police deal effectively with incidents of this kind is tainted by the lack of accountability which has been demonstrated where the police themselves are concerned - I refer of course to the death of Bushmills Major at the hands of Dalkeith officers, who, two months after the event, have still not been held accountable for their neglect of Major, which led to his slow agonising death in a police kennel. Nor have steps been publicised to indicate that the police have put protocols in place to prevent any future incidents of this kind.' Praise where praise is due, after all!
