Free money for GAL
Permalink Closed

Hello,

Sorry if this has been mentioned eslewhere, but I couldn't find it on a forum search. I came across a site which is basically a search engine which donates money to the charity of the users choice. GAL is included in the list, you can join by going to:

Everyclick GAL

So if you set it as your home page, or use it instead of Google/Jeeves/Yahoo to search, then GAL will get about 1p from each search. Also, in the shopping area there is a link to Ebay - use this link to bid and they give 5p - 6p per bid to charity, whila Amazon give 2.5%

Info from the site says:

Everyclick.com is a search engine that gives half of the revenue it generates to charity. Use it to raise money for your favourite charity whenever you search the web. Last year search engines generated close to £3.2 billion - just imagine how your selected charity could benefit if you and your friends all used everyclick.com to support them whenever you searched the web.

Cheers
Janet null

I think that Amazon pays a decent amount for purchase via an external link. It may be worth doing this one direct ourselves, possibly a combination of recommended books and a general link.

I will have a look into this.

Yes that is correct - we have a list of books on the website you can buy and if you click and buy through Amazon we get a percentage of the sale.

As Siouxsie mentioned we will be updating our book lists soon and will add any new titles to the list or we may even sell some directly from our shop.  We also have titles available in the shop to buy just now.

This is good to know - now just need to get my head round the "technical" bits.

I tryed to sign up to this as my mum uses it to donate to a Donkey Charity she works with. But it said i was donating to "unspecified charity". What was more worrying was when I did a search for GAL it didn't come up with anything near.  Is it just me being a computer numpt????

Folks, just a quick one on this - the website Jan has found has never approached GAL to ask permission to use our Charitys name on their website, it's a bit obvious they've just copied info from out website - I'm not saying there's anything wrong or suspicious about the website (however I do wonder where the money goes if they haven't got in touch with us!) I'd advise you all not to use this till GAL find out a bit more about the organisation behind it...

cheers
Dave

I un-installed it as it seemed a bit strange my money would be going to another charity.

Thanks for warning Dave.

I see where you are coming from on this one Dave. From the site it sounds as if the money doesn't get totalled until the end of the month, so it will be interesting to see how much they claim has been given to GAL and if you actually receive it. The site has recieved a fair amount of press coverage, so there are likely to be a number of charities also watching for their money. Interviews in the press however did include individuals who had raised money for small charities (school funds etc), including quotes from the organisers of those charities.

As with most things on the Internet, caution is always recommended, however it doesn't cost me much in time and nothing in money to use their website, so personally I will take the chance for a month or two until we find out.
