Yes. But he wasn't charged with killing the dogs but with polluting the ground. Killing them isn't illegal as long as it is done humanely. Don't get me wrong. Killing all these dogs, and the numbers vary, is a terrible thing but it's not against the law. Does the law need changed? I think that greyhound trainers are required to "dispose" of their dogs using professional vets, so can this guy provide names so that sanctions can be imposed against them?
it would have been alot more beneficial if the dogs bodies went to a vet school or something, they are always looking for bodies to do things with, its such a shame that all these dogs had to die but its not this mans fault he was doing it for the racing people, they are the ones who should be fined and jailed, this man was humanly killing them, dont get me wrong i dont agree with this, i dont think these dogs should have to go through this but it wasnt entirely his fault.

I have to agree with Jennifer.... David Smith should get a bolt gun to the head.......
Having said that..... I wonder how much worse it could have been for the dogs if he hadnt done what he did? Guess it goes back to the old argument....this type of thing will continue to go on while there is money to be made by people who think dogs are just a commodity, and are disposable at the end of their racing days.
I can't find the article now, but it is now claimed that he killed 2 dogs a week over 2 years, not the 10,000 originally claimed. Nevertheless, who was going to him with these dogs? Are they not the guilty parties? Should action not be taken against them?
I seem to remember him interviewed as saying he started burying at one end of his field, worked to the other side then back again, this suggest an awful lot more bodies than 200+. I agree those who took the dogs to him should have consequences to face, and that the over-breeding needs to be stopped.
His charges and fine comes as no great surprise, the thing is,will anything have been learned from it ,I don,t think so. He is probably only one of many who do this to earn a bob or two. Nora
