HOTDOGS!
Permalink Closed

Hi All,
WOW, I have just discovered the power of warm hotdogs, I am trying to better Dexter's recall as I'd love one day (fingers crossed) to be able to let him of the lead and run free (his prey instinct isn't high - he lies quite happily beside the cat and the guinea pigs!)  I have tried cheese, biscuits, liver and sausages, however none of them were interesting enough outside.  However I tried the warm hotdogs and I think he thinks I am doggy heaven   He is even chasing them if I throw them, so maybe my dream may not be a pipe dream after all, will keep trying

Hi Jen

It's great you've found something that Dexter will come back for to help him with recall. I remember seeing a TV programme recently (can't remember which one) and warm hotdogs were recommended for helping to train dogs. I'll have to try them with Dixie!

Hi Christine,
I think it may have been the Crufts programme, which is where I saw it they used it to train a dog (dalmation) in obedience who was food motivated - I'd say Dexter was pretty much food motivated!!!

Ah ha!  A new ploy to try with Tigger!  I've tried cold hotdogs - with limited success so perhaps, where cold hotdogs have failed, warm ones will make a break through!

Hi, wrap the hotdogs in tinfoil after you have zapped them in the microwave, this tends to keep them warm
