Car boot sales?
Permalink Closed

Hi All,

Last year I remember that GAL people did some car boot sales to raise money for the kennel fund. Is that going to happen again this year as Graham and I are having a bit of a spring clean and a clear out. I can hang on to things if they will be wanted otherwise I will sort it for charity shops and freecycle.

Hi Claire,

I wouldn't mind been involved in a car boot sale, (one of my big passions) also would be nice to be on the other side as my boyfriend thinks I waste far to much money @ them. biggrin

Would Gal run it as their own or can we set up a couple of boots @ clydevalley or something??

Count me in anyway.

Anyone else ??

Fiona (FAJ) and I did a car boot sale for GAL last year and made £350 in one morning it was great fun and we would really recommend it to anyone who wants to help raise money for GAL. Fiona was an amazing sales woman.

We just packed our cars and went to a local (Edinburgh) car boot sale armed with GAL signs and wearing GAL T-shirts.

The car boot organisers gave us a discount on our entrance fee as we were representing a Charity, but it might be worth phoning them first and checking.

Once Fiona and I had decided where and when we were doing it we put a post on the forum for donations and collected the stuff at the monthly walk.

Goodluck

Hope to hear from anyone who knows where there is a car boot sale and I'll come! I have been saving up items from various events and currently have one bedroom and one shed full of very interesting things - not much on clothes but I have radios, CD mini players, books, watches, perfume, etc..  I had sent an email to a few people who told me that they knew of a big Car Boot sale in Edinburgh - does anyone know where it is and when?

Usually most places will waive the fee if we present them with our charity number, etc. so that isn't too bad.

Landess - you did great for such a short time!! Let me know when you find a place and if you need support!
Thanks,
Linda

I think there is one in Milngavie at the weekends.

I don't mind coming along to one with you.

Just don't let me buy anything!!

The best attended Car Boots sales are in the Clyde Valley around 3 miles from Garrion Bridge going towards Lanark, it sits in a field on the left side of the road. If the weather is good the people come from miles around. I think it runs on Sundays during the summer months.
Another very well attended Car Boot sale is in the Blocairn Market, next to the flower/fruit market. I think they have a market with new stuff and a car boot section. I have a friend who made a very good living in there every weekend!

Good luck with the "car booting!"

The one I normally go to is down in the clydeside as as described above. This started last Sunday & runs every weekend till Sep. On bank holidays they normally do a Monday as well.

Maybe we could organise one for the May bank holiday weekend. If we organise it well enough we could try a couple of different boot fairs.

I can look into the clydeside one. Anyone fancy that one ??

Thanks for all the information on Car Boot Sales - it is great! I would like to see if we couldn't organize a few to do over the summer.

I would love to do one over the May Holiday weekend but I'm running in the Hairy Haggis Relay in the Edinburgh Marathon. If you want to do it then - I'll help to organize it. However, is there another weekend that anyone wants to do one? I love going to them - as long as I don't BRING HOME MORE than what I take I'll be okay!

The big car boot in edinburgh is at Ingliston near the airport off the A8.  I have been once or twice and it is very big and quite popular.
We are interested in doing the car boots and a few people at my work have offered to donate stuff.

Jenny the Car boot sale and the market at Ingleston got shut down a while ago I think. cry  The two main ones in Edinburgh are at the Corn Exchange (next to the big Asda at Chesser) on a SAT and SUN and one at Greenside car park on Sundays.  The corn exchange one is an early start  I'm sure we were there about 6.30am and it was already busy.

Good luck anyone who does it.

Hi, I just thought I would confirm that Ingliston car boot has shut down, we live in Igliston, it definately went last year.  There is a car boot section at East Fortune market on a Sunday also, its a bit further out but the market itself is busy.smile

Okay - thanks everyone for the updated information on car boot places.

Is anyone up for doing one at the Corn Exchange? I know it sounds early - I'd have to leave in the dark but am up to it if a few others would like to.

PM with dates and hopefully we can get one or two organized!
