Have just come in to find Blue a little bit lame on his back left leg. On closer inspection his toe is at a right angle!!! Strangley for the biggest woose in the world he is not howling or crying in fact is asleep in full roach! He doesn't like anything or anyone touching it though.
Vet appointment at 5.45 wish us luck. Last time he did this to a fromt toe he had a bandage on for 3 months with weather like this the tan line would be awful!
That sounds horrible, poor Blue. Did he catch it in his blanket or something? Daz sometimes tangles his back toes in his blanket while roaching and there's a terrible fuss! Good luck at the vet, Blue.
Vet thinks it is dislocated as it doesn't seem to grate when moved . He is booked in tomorrow to be x-rayed also have his teeth done whilst under Is home rather subdued after pain killers
exactly the same foot that Daisy dislocated a toe on.
she screamed blue murder after she'd run up the stairs. however, when i looked her over, there was no sign of any injury. vet thinks it dislocated then righted itself. we didn't notice any problem with her toe for weeks - after which time it was too late to do anything about it.
she still has a wonky toe but it doesn't seem to worry her at all. the only trouble now is that the nail doesn't naturally wear down as it isn't touching the ground and she will absolutely not let me touch her foot to clip the claw. we either stress her out by making her have it cut or the vet does it on her annual visit !!!
good luck for blue at the vet - do let me know what the treatment is. big hugs to the handsome man - he's still one of my very favourites !
Blue's toe had sorted itself out over night. He has still gone to the vets for a check and his teeth done. Kids are back at school and my house is very quiet
Poor you, I know how stressful it is waiting to hear everything is okay I'm glad Blue's toe was better this morning. Last time Mason went lame the vet told me he had a couple of "big toes" probably caused by old racing injuries. It seems to be a v. common problem. Hope Blue's home for hugs soon Marie
It a very common thing for greyhounds to do. I think when they are racing round tight bends their toes can part come out of the socket or along those lines and this must weaken their toe joints. I used to help out a vet who did a lot of toe amputations on greyhounds as they kept repeatedly dislocating their toes. Glad Blue's toe has sorted itself without any intervention. Hope it stays that way.
Well have spoken to the vets Blues toe is fine now but he has had 10 teeth removed! It's an on going thing with Blue's teeth he has really bad gum disease. No matter how much we brush his teeth they always look horrid.
We can pick him up at 6 pm as he is rather dopey after the anasthetic
Got up to him this morning and his toe looks like it has dislocated again Why they didn't bandage it for suport yesterday I dont know. Guess back to the vets...
Edited to say it had gone back when Phil had a look 10 mins later Hope it doesn't keep happening
poor blue. at least he's getting treatment for the toe - Daisy's is permanently dislocated now and always at right angles to her foot. i was wondering if amputation would be her best bet but my vet says not.
Oh poor Blue boy, what a horrid time he is having of it just now. Give him a big hug from me. Janie thinks he is still the most handsome boy and that his blue bandage makes him look like a real tough guy hero. She sends lots of love and licks to her fav boy.
