Both our dogs hoover food up without it touching the sides. Although we really enjoy Harry's breathy burps afterwards, he's puked the goods up a few times which isn't much fun.
We've tried feeding bigger bits of dry food but that makes no difference. They are fed together and maybe we should try feeding apart in case there is any difference there, but I'm not convinced it would change anything.
I've heard you can put objects in the bowl so that they find it trickier to hoover up the kibble as quick - anyone have any experience of this? Maybe I should drop one bit of kibble in at a time
my lurcher was bad for wolfing his food down so i split his morning feed in half and gave it to him within 10 mins of each other and did the same with his evening feed, didnt stop him eating it quikly but it stopped him bringing it back up again.
I've heard of people putting balls and things in so the dogs have to push them out the way to get the food. With horses we use large boulders for the same reason and it stops them wolfing down their food but you'd have to have pretty massive bowls for that to work with your two.
It might be a competition thing, Sunny was a very picky eater till Zoe came along but now she wolfs it down and stands staring at Zoes in the hope she leaves some.

Greyhounds are like chocolates, one is just never enough.
Pearly was always a scoffer - first time we saw her in kennels she was lapping up another dog's vom with real vigour and haste..yum! Harry scoffs too - maybe cos he wasn't fed properly in his previous days.
However, we know that as soon as Pearly finishes she hangs around Harry waiting for him to finish so she can lick his bowl. For all Harry's toughness, he never growls and Pearly can shove her nose in his bowl and he doesn't react. We often feed them from the same bowl when he have scraps going. I often have to hold Pearly back as she is mental when it comes to food - don't get in ma way she says!
Might try bunging in a Kong or two - see what happens. If no luck will try to separate. Canny really split the food in more sittings - a time thing really.
no wonder he wolfs his food down if she sticks her nose in to pinch it...
Pearly doesn't actually stick her nose in to pinch it. Of course, we wouldn't allow this! The dogs are supervised whilst feeding and eat at opposite end of the kitchen. But she finishes first (even if she gets her food after Harry does) and is a cheeky wee buggah who tries her hand from time to time to see what she can get away with.
I know some people say separating them works for their dogs, but it didn't work for our Belle. She always eats alone in the kitchen with the door shut and she has no reason in the world to eat like she's still got her seven littermates around her, just waiting to pounce. Yet she hoovers the food up so quickly, to be honest it doesnt even look like she can taste it, far less enjoy it. When she eats she seems very tense and her tail is always tucked right in, like every ounce of concentration is on what's in the bowl.
We thought she'd get more relaxed about food once it dawned on her that she has no reason to worry. But she hasn't. She's as laid back as any other greyhound in every other way, but when it comes to food she's not laid back at all.
In other words - sorry, I can't help with Harry and Pearly's eating habits.
I think feeding them seperate might help. Obviously it just depends on the dogs themselves, what works for one might not work for another. When i first got Willow he was very fussy and nearly always left some food in his dish. 5 months later... he is eating his food fairly quickly and seldom leaves any food in his dish as he knows he has 3 competitors!
