On Monday Scooby was playing about along the loch where he turned to quickly & broke his back right leg. Poor wee mans leg was just hanging ! I was in floods of tears as my poor wee man was screaming & howling. I got him back to the house & rushed him to the vets.
They took xrays & told me it was a straight clean snap. They operated on him on the Tuesday & put it back with pins, with a metal casing around the leg to hold it in place.
I got him home yesterday morning all very swollen & still sleepy. His leg is all bandaged up so that i can't see the metal casing all the time. He has to have complete rest for the next 6 - 7 weeks & only allowed out for the toilet on his lead & a very slow pace.
He has a lot of meds to take but thats no problem as he wolfs his dinner down so i doubt he would taste any meds ! He's back at the vet tomorrow (friday) for his first check & then it will be checked every tuesday religiously !!! This is going to be a very long process but the vet did say Scooby is a very fit & healthy dog & can't see no reason why he won't recover. He's now got pride of place on the couch with a cover over it as the wound is weeping a bit. I'm just thankful his leg was saved as i really didn't think it would be, but it's marvellous what vets can do nowadays. As long as we can keep him quiet & take things extremely slowly we should get there in the end. I have all the time in the world.
Well here are a few pics i took yesterday of him:

How awful, poor Scooby, it must have been agony. Also, terrible for you. I would have totally panicked. Hope Scooby is feeling better soon. Best wishes, Marian.
No i didn't carry him, he is far too heavy for me. He walked back which was about 100 yards away from the house, well he hopped back. He was & is a brave boy.
Marian - I did panic but mum helped as i was out with her & her 2 wee dogs.
I didn't help that we had 5 dogs between us & having to rush home. Believe me it wasn't easy.
The vets surgery is a good 40 minutes away too, it felt like i was never going to get there. Nothing worse than being stuck behind slow traffic when your in such a rush.
I'll keep you updated with what the vet says tomorrow.

Poor Scooby and poor you. It's heartrending to see your dog in that picture, so can only imagine the nightmare when it happened. Wishing you good things and hope time and quiet will work for you both.
God I cannot even imagine how you feel, poor Scooby. Wishing him all the very best to his recovery and well done to you and your mum for getting him to the vets so quickly considering the circumstances. Please keep us updated with his recovery. Nora

Poor Scooby - and what a shock it must have been for you too! Fingers crossed that TLC and peace and quiet work wonders for him and that he makes a quick recovery! Big hugs to Scooby!
Vet is very pleased with him & his leg is looking 'normal' ! They changed the dressing so he's now sporting a green vetwrap. He seems to be improving in himself & is starting to become a lot livelier.
Got another appointment for Monday at 1:30pm.

Poor Scooby, what a terrible thing to happen. So pleased things seem to be heading in the right direction and all the clinical signs are good for a full recovery. Keep us posted on his progress. Hugs to Scooby
So glad to hear Scooby is on the mend. Poor soul. What a terrible thing to happen to your boy. It will probably take you a lot longer to recover!! Best Wishes, Marian.
Best Wishes to Scooby for a speedy recovery. It is shockinng how quickly they can have accidents and get hurt. Lets hope he is better and running around again soon. Hugs and licks Em and Chad xx
Scooby is coming a long nicely. He's been going to the vets every couple of days for check ups. The vet took him in last wednesday & gave him a slight sedation as they wanted to take the metal cast off his leg & give the wound a good cleaning, the vet also loosened the cast ever so slightly as it was starting to annoy him. There is a very slight infection in the wound but apparently that is to be expected so the vet prescribed stronger antibiotics to combat it.
He is being a little bugger as he keeps trying the pull his banage off to lick the wound, he thinks if he goes & hides in the bedroom then nobody is going to know but we have wisened to him. The vet has given me one of those lampshade collars but i'm trying to avoid using it as it will drive him mad & depress him.
He's walking on his leg a little more now & he's starting to be his usual hyper self !! Thats not what the vet wants either.
The staff at the surgery absolutely love him & he's become one of there favourites ! The vet who has been attending to him has gone on holiday but did say to me that she would be phoning the surgery to see how he is getting on, she is in South Africa too !!! He melts so many peoples hearts & considering he's a Greyhound & they are very wimpish nothing seems to faze him.
So anyway thought i would update you all as you have been so very kind with your lovely warm comments.
Will update again soon.

Delighted that Scooby is on the road to recovery! He must be so fed up waiting for his leg to heal. I had to laugh at him hiding in the bedroom to try to remove the bandage. Good job you knew what he was up to!
