Permalink Closed

GAL are attending a dog show at the beautiful Linlithgow Palace!.

The Information Stall and volunteers will all be there along with some homeless dogs.  The event will be from 1.30 till 4.

Last year was a lot of fun and for Graham, Tara and myself the start of our GAL journey as this was where we first met GAL last year.

Flash had a great day out at Linlithgow...amongst others he was was approached by two groups of people saying that he was the most beautiful dog that they had ever seen.

Slap on the wrist for me.I did not point out that his x can have the looks of an angel but can be a devil to handle.

We all had a great day at the dog show.

I was so proud of Tara as she got 4th place in the Sit Stay class. It was a hard one as well as they did it as an elimination. Simple sit stay from 5 paces, then one to the middle of the ring, then to the middle of the ring and count to 10, and then middle of the ring and count to 20. Each time as I walked away from her I thought this time I will either have her behind me when I turn round or she will be off speaking to another dog. But she was good, sitting well till I came back with the treat, not even lying down. We even had an out of control husky on one side who I thought was going to distract her.

For the last bit they removed all the dogs that had moved during their sit stay and got everyone else to do it all at once. Despite the fact that there was a large pile of spilt popcorn behind Tara she managed to do her stay (she did lie down though after a few minutes, only 2 dogs didnt).

It makes me so happy that she could do that with all the other dogs around.

Zak got 2 3rd places one in Best Rescue and one with me in Best 6 Legs.

Well done to Zak and Tara! Lovely to see the gorgeous Flash there too.

We really enjoyed the dog show and it was great that there was quite a lot of interest in the greyhounds - one guy was even interested in fostering for a while, which would be brilliant. We spent quite a lot of time with Bandit, who was a wee star - can't believe he's been in the kennels for over a year, he has so much potential and really took everything in his stride at the show. (He also behaved perfectly in the car going back through to Langbank, although Tilly wasn't too impressed at having to give up her spacious boot to another dog!).

The only possible thing which might be putting people off taking on Bandit is the name. Might it be worth changing it to something a little more appealling? Just a thought.........

Was great to catch up with folk at Linlithgow yesterday and see the many dogs - all shapes and sizes.  The weather was great and it was busy.

Great photos. The one whos name you didn't get (last photo) is Sophie (Rhona W) and the brindle is her other dog Patsy.

You could be right about the name. I will give you my perspective. Tom and I got into conversation with an other couple of mature years at Linlithgow. We were of the same mind. We all had experience of taking into our homes some of the more challenging of our doggy friends but now we felt that common sense dictated that we had "Done our time" with the more wild and challenging of our doggy friends and now it was time to choose the more sedate.

Here is the rub. We accept that assessing dogs is not an exact science and that after rehoming.. dogs can throw up some problems once they have their
" Paws under the table" That is accepted and people like us would just grit our teeth and do everything possible to keep the dog no matter what. Here is where the name comes in. In the frame of mind that one is offering a forever home no matter what but would prefer to avoid major behavioural problems names like Bandit or things like Tyson et al? Daft as it may be but if the dog does prove a bit difficult it would be hard not to beat oneself over the head with a stick for taking in a dog with a name that has an aura of challenge.

Debbie/Andrew posed a thought about the name? I have fairly good reason to think that the thought has merit. Debbie and Andrew nice to see you again and Lita it was great to meet you.

Heaps of congrats to all that won prizes. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin Flash looks cute but entering him for competition? I do not ask for humiliationbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin..hope that none of you heard his high pitched screaming" I need to kill"  when we had to drag him away from the collie and duck demo.
Love to all

Congratulations to all the winners and the photos are great! Looks as if everyone had a good time. And it's always a good opportunity to spread word of what GAL is all about.

It would be a good idea to change Bandit's name. I met him at the GUVMA Rodeo and he's lovely - such a gentle boy. He just wanted to be stroked and cuddled!

It has been such a busy weekend and now into the week I am amiss for not thanking everyone who came out and helped with the event! It was such a lovely day and while we were not allowed to sell anything - just having the cans out we raised over £45! :) Not to mention Bandit enjoyed the day.

Thank you Andrew & Debbie for taking him back to the kennels as I had to do an emergency transport!

Look forward to seeing everyone again at the next event!
