Hi everyone! Time to announce our annual SPONSORED DOG WALKS (GLASGOW & EDINBURGH)! For once I will give everyone plenty of notice so that we can have a big turnout of support!
Every year GAL holds a sponsored walk and this year we are not just holding one but two!!!!
First of our sponsored walks (and first SDW for this venue) will be held at Holyrood Park,(Edinburgh) on Sunday June 24th at 12 noon! And then the following week at Strathclyde Park in Motherwell (Glasgow) on Sunday July 1st at 11am! Let's hope this year the weather is better than the downpour we got last year!! (Both sponsored walks coincides with our regular Monthly Dog Walks in the East and West).
All GAL members will receive a letter & sponsor forms shortly and we will also send out more sponsor forms to everyone else we have on our database (such as those that have recently adopted or let their membership lapse!).
Last year the walk raised an amazing total of over £2,500! This was a great effort for all those that participate! As always the demand for GAL is getting greater each year - so many more dogs are waiting on the list to come in and so the need for support is even more important at this time. As this is my first year - both as the Events Coordinator and Convenor - This year as we have two sponsored dog walks, so we should manage to last year's total!
So PLEASE go out and get some sponsors or have family, friends and co-workers to join in together on the walk! ALL funds raised will go directly towards paying GAL kennelling and vet bills - EACH £ RAISED HELP GAL SAVE LIVES!
The walk round StrathclydePark is on the 1st and is about 4 miles and HolyroodPark on the 24th is approximately 2.5 miles. But remember if you can't make it on one of these dates - please consider doing your own walk on a different day or even a different location! We have our regular walks in Glasgow AND Edinburgh every month so those would be ideal times and places to complete the walk.
We even have homeless dogs that we can "loan" you should you not have a dog or your own but would still like to walk for GAL.
Also please consider any 'schemes' your employer might have as some have 'community cash back' schemes that can add additional support for you! In the past years, we have had walkers that had their support doubled by their employers. So it is worth asking your employer! Again, every £ counts!
If you have any questions or you need more sponsor forms, please email Linda@gal.org.uk .
Each doggie participant of the walk on the 24/6 or 1/7 will receive a "goody" bag and we will have prizes and medals for the folks that raise the most amount of money!!
Thanks in advance for all your effort and support.
Flash will definately be at the Edinburgh walk, will there be plenty of "extra" hounds there? I've got loads of pals coming along who would love to try one on for size.
Whereabout in Strathclyde park will the walk be talking place tomorrow? I know it used to be at the car park after the centre but i believe the venue changed.
Its just Sally who's coming as Dan had a gap in his medication and can get a bit confused and tires easily!
