Welcome to the forum. To answer you question about cats and Greyhounds. Some greyhounds can live with cats. Our Zak happily lives with our cat.
On the other hand a lot of Greys that we get are ex-racers, and because they have been trained to chase they chase cats. So it is less common for us to get cat safe dogs.
One thing to do would be to dog check your cat. Do you have any friends with a cat friendly dog that can be introduced to your cat to see what would happen? Obviously this would have to be done very carefully.
Our last cat was a dog hater. He acted all friendly from under something till the dog got close an then tried to claw its nose off. While we had him it would not have been fair on a dog to bring it into the house, so we only got dogs once he passed away. Equally you may have problems if the cat is terrified an runs away every time he sees a dog.
Welcome to the forum! It's great to hear you are thinking about getting a greyhound. They are the most wonderful pets- although you will probably have a longer look for one until you get one that is just right for you and Harry. We look forward to hearing all about your search!
Thank you for our warm welcome I am really looking forward to getting a dog. Zak looks so happy next to the cat one day I hope I can show you a picture of Harry sitting next to our dog. From what I have been reading today, I think we will have to wait for the right dog but I think it will be worth the wait. My friend has a dog and Harry always goes over to it and sniffs it, just like he is saying hello, so we hope he will be okay with a greyhound. I know we have a while to wait but do you think it is okay to change a dogs name or will that confuse them. Caryn and Greg and Harry
Hi and welcome! I think we are one of the few exceptions as we haven't changed Blues name. Gal usually give them a new name when they come into their care as greys can have been given some pretty dodgy names, landess's girl sunny was leaded windows poor thing!
In other words it would be fine to change the name!
I've got three dogs at present and two of them have not had name changes. Tigger, on the other hand, has. She went from Final Frontier to Star to Tigger. GAL called her Star however she wasn't very co-operative and decided she wanted to be Tigger. No problems since!
WELCOME TO GAL I am sure when the right dog comes along you and Harry will know, all the very best in your search and meanwhile you could maybe let us see piccies of HARRY THE CAT (sounds a bit like a super hero)LOL. Nora

Welcome to the forum guys, sadly Harry the Cat will never meet my boy Mason. He thinks all cats should be destroyed and has made it a personal mission However there is a thread on the forum with pix of groos and cats who are v. good friends which I hope you have checked out. I'm sure the hound for you is out there Marie
Hi Welcome to the forum, I hope you find a greyhound soon to add to your family. Our greyhound Dexter also lives with a cat and isn't in the slightest bit interested nor was he in the guinea pigs. Might explain why he never suceeded in the racing circuit Have fun looking..
