Apparently, an alligator can outrun a human on land.

Now, I knew that it could easily outswim a human, but I didn't realise that it was quicker out of the water too.

This means that you'd have to be a bloody quick cyclist if you wanted to beat an alligator in a triathlon.

Just one cow gives off enough harmful methane gas in a single day to fill around 400 liter bottles.

Apparently some gators can top 25-30 mph over a short sprint.  Doubt they're cycling speed has been measured sadly, don't think they have the legs for it...

As the old joke goes though, you don't need to outrun the alligator, just your mate...

*** BREAKING NEWS ***

It appears that Alligators, though faster than humans in a straight line, can't move from side to side very well, and a Human running in a zig-zag pattern will outrun them easily.

I'll pop by Edinburgh Zoo on my way home tonight to confirm, and report my findings later.

Phil Thats cheating as the ones at Edinburgh Zoo are crocodiles not alligators. And besides they only have the miniature ones.

this really is stuff you can't live without knowing eh?

my favourites are:

1. the distance between your wrist and elbow equals the length of your foot.

2. the distance between the fingertips of your outstretched arms equals your height.

yep, they really do work !

Well, indeed I did survive, like SilverHippo said, they were only small, and I'm surprisingly quick over short distances.

Alligators also make fine wallets, I had one for years until some swine picked my pocket.  If only I'd walked in a zig-zag motion, I'd still have it now.  It's a shame we didn't know about this zig-zag stuff when they were discussing Trident, it seems a near perfect defence.  I can see the public information films now,

"In the event of a neuclear attack, a siren will sound.  At this point, every citizen must walk in a zig-zag motion"

Phil, do you think the Spice Girls were trying to offer us all great advice way back in the late 90's when, in their seminal hit single 'Wannabe', they told us all to 'zig a zig ha'....confused
