My biggest problem is that I'm vegetarian and the thought of watching my dogs eat raw meat etc puts me off eating at all.  I have been following various discussions (in magazines) about diets.  It is certainly the most natural diet for dogs but, as previously mentioned, it does make me squeamish and mixer and tins of dog meat or complete food is far easier to deal with.

I would consider it if I wasn't having to feed Wills his special diabetic dog food.  I may also consider it in future as the fresher breath, less windy and better teeth prospects are a big attraction!  wink

i've not read all the posts in this section but i'm responding to Karen's comments, above.

i have found that a dollop of natural yoghurt in their dinner makes all the difference. it's the one thing that has had an enormous effect on their digestion - the poos are solid and the windy problem has all but disappeared. the garlic granules (in another thread) also gives a marked improvement in the "dog breath" department.

hope this helps you Karen.

I've tried the natural yoghurt with limited success.  I can't say I noticed much difference in the wind department.  Wills has always been particularly windy - kennels that he came from always said he had a sensitive stomach.  As for the "end result" I didn't see a great deal of difference there either.  hmm

I have seen how different foods can affect them and there has been a small element of trial and error involved which is another reason that I am slightly hesitant about changing things at present.

I think I tried garlic thingys a while back with Wills but it seemed to make the wind problem worse.  Think I'm stuck with the old gas mask for the forseeable future!  wink

More poo..

Jennifer - that makes pretty horrid reading - I have seen similar and thats what got me looking into barf in the first place. The bit about testing animals on the faulty batch was horrific though.furiousfurious It makes you realise why you don't see "white poo" anymore - theres sod-all meat in the stuff now.

The funny thing is that the cheap Supermarket own brand chic wings are "class A" food for humans rather than the horrid grade used in dog food..

Isla - chicken wings aren't too horrid to handle, just close the door while the dogs are crunching them! I got interested in barf after reading posts from a Veggie who fed her dog barf so there are others in your position..

The Lidl fish went down really well tonight. They fit in my freezer too!

Off for a trot round the block..
