Well excitement tonight in Sandbank. We are the lucky people who are helping Red. I went to collect him this eve from Rachael. Lenny my daughters dog came to with his mummy. He and Red will be together every week day so it was important they got on together no problems at all so far. After leaving Rachael we went our separate ways and I headed back to the ferry. Red lay in the back of my mazda quite happy. Every so often he would lift his head up over the back of the car seat from the boot and check out things then back down to sleep. He took the ferry in his stride by sleeping thro the whole ride. Back to Milton and he spent a good 30 mins having a good look round and sniffing everything. The stairs were no problem at all. He panted a bit for a while but settled down after a short while. I then got his lead out and well!!! Boy he can jump his tail even came from between his legs for a short while.....
We had a walk to the marina he seemed to like the sea air. Saw one wee dog which scarpered when he saw Red. That did evoke a wee bit of pulling and very focused stare but nothing to bad. He recognised the gate and was up the steps to the front door instantly. The picture below was taken 5 mins later he seems to be settling so far. What do you all think.....
Will keep you all informed and show more pics very very soon promise
Please do Rob has put up all the new fencing and we one gate just one to finish then we are done.
Roof Well that is no further as the fence took priority today. Rob off again on Sunday so last gate and then the roof to be finished phew why oh why did we do it ourselves Well time to retire to the sofa and get five mins and some soup. Although other posts mentioned a glass of wine that seems like a good idea right now....
I'm delighted that Red has found a home with you. I met Red at the Awareness Day at Langbank and hoped he'd get a new home soon as we wasn't taking at all well to kennel life.
I'm sure he'll settle in well with you. Please let us know how he's getting on!
Congrats on the new member of your family - no wonder you were excited!!
How lovely that you have Red. Have met him a few times and am so glad he is no longer in the kennels. Lots of luck with your new boy. Cant wait to see more pics and stories
Well first night over and as all expected he took to house life well. He came up to his quilt in our room and slept all thro phew!! Even ignored my frequent visits to loo. (pesky hormones). He didn't come onto our bed until invited and when I got his collar and lead to take him for his wake up wee well I am just so happy to say he bounds about his tall wagging it is so great to see. Just Red and I today as hubby has to work. So we are going out and exploring so I can work out what things need to be sorted with him. Have a friend with a King Charles (thinks its a human) so will organise a safe meeting and see if her small furry is going to be an issue. Well must dash as the wee (well he looked wee last wk) man is waiting for his breakfast. More adventures to follow and Karen if you see us please stop and chat so we can introduce the gang.
I'll certainly speak if I see you but I spend most of my time up Glen Massan and other favourite walks. If you're looking for different places - give me a shout and we can head into the hills together!
That would be lovely will give you a call next week once finished the garden fencing and the roof.
The meeting of Red and the wee King Charles Spaniel went ok. He got a bit excited when Hector was off the lead and leaping around in the water. And yes I did know he would jump but wow what a big jumper he is.... No problems tho and then once hector came back he ignored him again. He did see a cat in the distance later on and I noticed he was locked on quite quickly and a bit jittery but we said no and kept him walking the other way..He hates his muzzle I believe he hasn't worn one for a long while but will be using it at the moment all the time till we see how he does. He has also met the granddaughter and he was an angel he lay stretched out and lifted one ear at her and then promptly ignored her and slept. Only introduced both hector and emily for a short while to start the familourisation process. We have both had a long morning and are now settling down for a wee afternoon nap.....But all going very well so fingers crossed it carries on so
His colour certainly suits his name - it's sooo striking! Great to hear he's settling in and I'm looking forward to hearing how he gets along with the 'human' king charles!
Glad that things are going so well with Red. Sounds as if he has landed himself with a super home and loads of lovely walks to explore. Eleanorxxxxxxxx

Well the walk with the human King Charles went wellish. Great on the lead not at all interested. However when we kc went off lead and dashed around things got a bit exciting. Red can jump up and turn around mid air and land backwards in a split second (thank goodness for a tight collar and strong arms). He found this very exciting. When said kc then came charging at me and tried to jump. mmmmmm lets say Red managed to deter him very well a big push with his nose and muzzle in the kc chest sorted that out. No idea if he would have bitten not ready to find out to be honest. However when kc back on lead no interest again...
Today we got the gentle leader and wow does that make a difference walking him. Used both in conjunction as not sure about gentle leader and whether I had fitted correctly. All well. Red not impressed with something around his snout. Don't think I can use that and the muzzle (if any one knows can you let me know?).
Will post photo's very soon
p.s. hmmm Red doesn't seem to want to know his name yet lol... not sure if he is just trying it on will have to find which treat is going to rock his boat and then see about his name!!
It's no Problem using the gentle leader with the muzzle, that's what i use with Branston. if you put the gentle leader on as normal, the ring should sit under his jaw where you attach the lead. there's a gap in the muzzle to allow the leader to go through.
Branny even modelled it for you (albeit reluctantly!)
OOh that first photo of Branston - that's very definately an unimpressed face! Poor boy. Give him a pat and tell him we think he still looks very handsome and dashing - even with a GL and muzzle!
Hi Sandy, Hope Red is settling in a bit better with you now. Hopefully, each day should get a little easier, especially, with the gentle leader and muzzle. I could really sympathise with you when you mentioned about the strength of Red. When they have that strong chase instinct, you think nothing is going to stop them from getting whatever they are after!! Just had experience myself of the same thing and it was scary. I could barely hold back the dog.
However, at least you are prepared now and hopefully, with a strong arm, firm commands and plenty of treats in your pocket for good behaviour, it won't take him long to calm down when he meets other small moving creatures!!! He really is quite a stunning dog. Keep us posted. Marian.
Yippee love the gentle leader it real is good..... Went out again today to the same beach as the other day. A small black dog was running in and out of the water and as before Red was very very interested. He jumped as before but with out the powerful pull and settled down again on all four legs and although was a bit jittery didn't pull or jump again. Gave lots of praise and distracted him with wee bits of sausage Oh boy does he like those sausages. Using them now to get him to come in the garden he still has selective hearing with Red but if he thinks he hears me russling the bag etc. he bounds over fast....lol. Also left on own today for just about 2 hours and he was ok. He whined as I opened the door but then wow we had a lovely leap up and a big waggy tail.... Oh I am so happy to see it. Thanks again to Branston for the modelling perhaps he could get paid work for gal as a model?
Whe I first had Mason he used to throw hissy fits if I wanted him to walk away from a cat in a garden, cat in a house, dog with a squeaky toy, dunes full of rabbits or pretty much anything he found more interesting than me Other dog owners would look at me open-mouthed, clearly thinking I had no control over this big muscular defiant dog. There were times early on when I thought "this is just impossible" as he jumped and twisted and boxed me but I persevered and now, I'm glad to say, its a rare occurence and much more half-hearted. The trick seemed to be never, ever letting him win. Now he occasionally tries his luck but given in quickly and forgets about it within seconds. Marie
Oh thanks for that. It does so help having others who have been there and done it before you. Red saw a cat again today but didn't jump just kept swerving his head around to try and see it better. The gentle leader is so helping and although distracted and not responsive to my voice he did keep walking my way. So that felt better. Thanks again for all the help and wishes guys it is so helpful. Red decided today half way thro a client ( I am a reflexologist) to do the soulful howling!!!!!!!!!!!!! bless. Never heard a bark from him tho yet (thank goodness). Well he is now walked fed and sleeping again so I am off out for another hour and a bit to see how he gets on. No noise yesterday but whether today was he knew I was still in the house! If so will have to start working on that seperation somepoint too.
The gentle leader is fantastic isn't it? i noticed a huge difference with Branston when we started using it.
Sounds like you're doing a grand job with Red, he sounds so settled already!
Re Branston, and the modelling, I don't think he's cut out for the catwalk, he threw a major sulk as his walk was postponed by 30 seconds when i was taking the photos of him with the GL on. typical prima donna!
Oh Bless, sorry branston for causing you the inconvienience (doh think my spelling is off). Managed to find out more about Red from his ear tatoo. He is nearly 8 years old....wow according to my tame vet nurse (daughter) he has very good teeth for a grey of that age...His racing name was Cracker Magic and he didn't win any races on their radar. think I heard somewhere that there are other not so important ones called .......no forgotten..Also managed to get him on to the scales so we could be a bit more accurate with the amount of food to give him. He is still under weight but seems to be settling down now so hopefully will start to fill out a wee bit soon. Hoping all well that will make the walk on Sunday.
