Not a Grey..but...

..i wonder if i can pick your brains anyway...Holly, my PRT..4y old F(N) interacts with all dogs, she isnt hugely a doggy dog in that she can take/leave other dogs outwith the house, she will carry on playing ball etc as dog walk past, she is very submissive if another dog runs up to her, ears back, makes herself look small, but if she feels they are getting too in her face she will make a sharp bark noise, air snap and run off..but when she is on a lead, if an unknown dog runs up to her she will snap and growl, again never making contact, but sounding aggressive, you can let her off the lead with the said dog and she will run around..any thoughts on how i can train her out of doing this when on the lead?

Hi Abbey,
What sprung to my mind going from my experience, some dogs whilst on their lead do feel threatened when other dogs come running up to them off lead, as dog on lead can feel restricted and not able to run away or chase after it, so instead will bark, growl, show aggressiveness, to warn the other dog away.  Sounds like she does the same to a dog that is 'too much in her face' - she is warning them off too!!

I think whilst she is on the lead and behaving in this manner, a short sharp 'no' whilst carrying on walking her may be the answer.

Thanks for that..i have tried the 'no' but taken this a bit further and just made a deep sound at the back of my throat (she cant bear if she thinks i'm angry with her!) and this seems to be working, she looks at me with her ears back and keeps walking..i'll keep  on with it. I just dont like her to seem like she is nasty, when i know that if she were off lead she would be fine.
