As many of you know we are collecting our new pup on Sunday..i am planning to Identichip him like all the other dogs, but wonder if i should wait until he is castrated and just have it done under anaesthetic..any Greys/Lurchers i have ever held in the past seem to be pretty sensitive to the needle for the chip. I normally do any pups at the 2nd vaccination at about 10weeks..any thoughts/experiences?

Hi, I had dexter chipped after we got him and he would have been 2 1/2 years of age. He didn't really flinch that much, he did bleed a little but not screaming. Hope that helps

We have had all our dogs chipped all at various ages, the was not much fuss and I think it is better to get them done as soon as possible in case of them running off, stolen, lost etc. smile Nora

I got Tigger done after we got her (she was 18 months ish).  She didn't bat an eyelid at the injection, there was no blood or anything.  She was brilliant!  aww

I, on the other hand, nearly fainted when I saw the size of that thing!!!  hmm

I chipped bella myself when I got her prob only about 3 months at the time. She yelped for about 3 seconds then forgot and carried on eating her chew.  Judy was done when I got her (4 years old) and she never even flinched!
The thing is if he was to go missing for example before he was castrated which I presume will be when he is 6 months old+ you would be kicking urself that you never just done it when you got him.
If he is anything like my Lurcher Bella, just have some tasty treats to hand after its done and he'll soon forget all about it. wink

We got Dave and Daisy chipped as soon as we got them - the vet suggested that we hold their heads really tightly to distract their attention from the chip needle - it seemed to work, they didn't utter a sound !

Tom was neutered within a couple of days of coming to live with us so he was chipped whilst he was under the anaesthetic - he's a real woos so that was best for him!

If I were you, I'd definitely get pup done as soon as poss. After all, the chipping is so quick he'll forget it within ten minutes - probably you will be more upset than him. And, if he gets out, at least you have the peace of mind to know he can be re-united with you quickly.

Can't wait to see photos of the new baby, xx

I had Timmy chipped when he was 5. It seemed to be completely painless and I don't think he realised that anything had been done.
