Hello it's Joe and Liz here with a tail or two about the 6 greyhounds we have fostered so far from Bothwell. It goes back over a year now and we started off with a lovely black girl called Emma who we had for just a few days and she now has a nice new home. Next up was Elvis who is a cracking black greyhound who again we had for just a few days and got our hearts racing as he slipped his lead one day for about a minute but it seemed like an hour! He is now living down in Ayrshire. Jake was next ( a dark brindle boy ) who we were told hates other dogs but actually went to a family with another dog.Suzy was a beautiful brown and white girl who stole our hearts. She was handed in to Bothwell as a result of a marriage breakup and we thought of how we could keep her but due to work commitments it was impossible to keep her. However we knew that as a result of being female, housetrained and beautiful that she wouldn't be in Bothwell very long and so it proved. Vernon was next and he is a tan coloured lurcher who we met up with at the Easter collar parade actually. Finally there was Rowan who didn't have a name at the time we took him home but we came up with the name one evening and we thought it suited him. He was a great dog and again we wanted to keep him but after a couple of near misses he found a home with Denise in Hamilton. He was at Bothwell for ages and how the great Scottish public could keep on bypassing such a wonderful, placid, gentle housetrained dog such as him was beyond us. It is getting harder to foster dogs now as we have 5 guinea pigs who have the run of the living room with us and we both work as well but doing it was a very rewarding and sometimes heartbreaking thing but I would still recommend it to people because these dogs need us and we need them.
I have such admiration for people like you who give the time and commitment to greyhounds. Its thanks to you guys that people like me end up with our wonderful dogs. When I look at my boy crashed out on the sofa utterly content I can't even contemplate the alternative paths his life could have taken. Please keep up the good work, and keep us informed about any new additions! Marie
I'm with Marie, you do a wonderful job helping these guys and gals find their forever home. Looking at my pooch Summer cocooned in her quilt it breaks my heart to think of all the others that aren't so lucky, if I had the space and money i'd have so many more. Keep up the good work when you can, we all know these lovely dogs deserve it.
I think it is wonderful what you do. I have met you a couple of times when I have been volunteering at Bothwell.
I am intrested to here you fostered Emma .... As the lovely black grey we took home from Bothwell in April 2006 was also called Emma ... Is this the same girl ?? We have renamed her Kiera & she is the best . It has also explained why she found home life so easy to settle into & thanks to you giving her that chance.
These are the pics we took when we fisrt got her as you can see she settled in great & has her brother Lachie.
It sounds like you have many fond memories of the dogs you have helped along their way and such a rewarding and selfless thing to do. I did at one point consider it but sadly with having five dogs of our own my husband did not feel that it would be fair our own dogs( I think it was more a case of he would get too attached and not want to give them up, big softy). Thanks for sharing that with us. Nora

It's lovely to hear that they all got wonderful homes. I agree with everyone else that you do a wonderful job. Having had a greyhound from the cat and dog home and one who was fostered from GAL, I can vouch that the fostered one found it a lot easier to settle with us. So thanks for doing all the preparation that makes our lives so much easier
