The treatment of the galgos in Spain is absoloutly horrific. They are completely expendable to the hunters who starve and beat them during their short lives only to kill them in what seem to be increasingly cruel and drawn out ways once the hunting season ends. Please click on the link to PETA's website to urge the Spanish officials to ban this hunting and to implement laws offering protection to the dogs - http://getactive.peta.org/campaign/galgosuk07
As a greyhound lover it makes for distressing viewing; it is hard to comprehend how people can treat such intelligent and gentle animals in this way. A few minutes to send an email could save many lives.
Thank you for reading this, Sarah (proud mum to Chloe and Bella)
Signed and sent, every little thing helps. I couldn't help but click on the link for the photos, OMG how horrendous I just burst out crying at the sight of them.
Duly signed! Even the two photos shown on the site were extremely distressing and disgraceful. How could ANYONE do something like that! They deserve to suffer the same fate!
Thank you to everyone who has read this and a huge thank you to everyone who has emailed on the galgos behalf.
I know what a huge difference I've made to my two wee girls' lives (although you'd think sometimes Chloe was the proverbial princess and the pea!) but sometimes it doesn't seen enough. I really admire people who dedicate so much time to raising awareness to the suffering endured by greyhounds: notably GAL and the Dumfriesshire & Cumbria Greyhound Rescue where I was lucky enough to find my lastest pooch Bella (please check out their website http://www.dgrescue.org.uk/ - my Bella is the cutie in the 'Let It Snow' Christmas cards).
We all do our bit. There are so many happy greyhounds in the world because we are intelligent enough to see just how special they are.
Iv'e been aware of the galgos plight for some time and i was only too happy to sign the petition, unfortunately the spanish are renowned for their animal cruelty, bulls donkeys and galgos are only a few of the abused, heres hoping lots more people sign up.
Have to admit its taken me a few days to work up the nerve to look at the report, but have now done it and signed the petition. The most alarming thing is its not that far different to the way some greyhounds are treated here. The story of poor Lucky comes to mind. I was talking to someone today and relating the tale of the little blue and white girl Rachel and Eddie saved from being PTS and they said to me 'you wouldn't treat a cat like this', I pointed out you couldn't treat a dog bred as a family pet like this. That's what makes me so mad Marie
Hi, I'm sponsoring a galgo (Terry on the GIN site)through quarantine, he'll be rehomed in the UK. I started that via GIN, Anne Finch's rescue. I also intend to forgo a substantial part of the xmas cheer to send cash to Peps kennels to help the galgos. I have photos up on the wall at work to attract people's attention to their plight, along with pics of my own gang. If even one person stops to think, I feel that is something.I had hoped to adopt one of the galgos which arrived in quarantine in August, but now looks like my foster girl who is ten, will be with me for some time to come, giving me a total of six dogs at present, so I cant manage a galgo just now. But I'll adopt in future. Only 16 come to the uk each year, Aug and Feb. I know there are so many desperate greys here, but the spanish dogs have far less chance of getting into rescue, and the deliberate torture is so horrendous and on such a huge scale, also so many greys from uk end up in spain as well, that I couldnt sleep if I didnt do what I could there as well. The spanish rescues are heavily dependant on funding from the uk to keep going, as so few spaniards really care. I do what I can here as well so I'm not neglecting the situation here, I just feel the spanish situation is that much more desperate and more hopeless, and dogs are sold directly from ireland to spain.
Hi,signed the petition the other day and was surprised to get a reply,in SPANISH!!!!did any one else?lot of b@@@~~ good that when i don't speak the lingo, they might as well be speaking double dutch.hope they aren't trying to excuse themselves 'cause I'm not in the slighest bit impressed, don't anyone go to Spain on holiday, hit them where it hurts,in the pocket.I first learned of the Galgos plight from Ann Finch and GIN many years ago and it's shocking that this barbarism still continues hope people worldwide sign up.
yeah I got a reply too, used one of the online translators to try and decipher it but it still makes no sense. Looks like a load of political waffle to me. Unfortunatley my grasp of the language goes about as far as asking for some milk or a beer lol. Hope someone is at least taking some heed from this petition. I remember a programme on tv years ago about the plight of the galgos but can't remember who it was by. It's shocking to think this kind of thing still goes on there and here more's the point.
