Hi Folks, can life suck any more than it already does for our gentle hound friends, three weeks ago a friend of ours was asked to get rid of a lovely three year old fawn girl who had gone a little lame, our friend could not keep the girl but made arrangements for her to go to kennels, now we know only too well how many doggies GAL are trying to help at the moment so Eddie and I decided to take responsibility for this wee girl and give her shelter here for as long as needs be,imagine the scene earlier on today. white van arrives at the house and we meet the really nice people who agreed to help transport the dog to us,the driver of the van says he's around the racing fraternity a lot and the way they talk about the dogs is absolutely terrible,he says they only care about money, not the dogsfurious.gifthe other guy who is from the kennels tells us that they had also moved two dogs to another rescue before coming to us,two black boys ,safesmile.gifafter a chat we go to get the wee fawn girl out of the van,van door opens and there in front of us is not one but two little girls, the second girl is a beautiful blue and white baby she doesn't look very old at all, both are very friendly, affectionate and don't seem bothered about being in a strange place, now get the tissues outcry.gifI couldn't help but make a fuss of the both of them they were just so lovely,Eddie came to have a quick look before popping into the house for a minute,so I'm getting ready to get the fawn girl out of the van I asked where the other wee girl was going and nobody really wanted to say ,so I asked again,it turns out that she was on her way to be put to sleep after the fawn girl had been dropped off with us,the wee girl was just no good on the track and her owner left her at the kennels with the fee to put her to sleepfurious.giffurious.gifthe kennels had no space so they didn't have a lot of choice, and as she didn't belong to them it was difficult,Icould see the guy was dreading itcry.gifwell you can imagine how I felt, Eddie came out of the house and before they knew it both wee girls were in a kennel together safe and soundsmile.gifthey both deserve a second chance and we are determined to see they get it thank god they came here first,we were left with a nice donation to get them started and six bottles of wine.!!the guy from the kennels called to see how they had settled in and to thank us again for taking both of them,he said he felt bad about us taking them both as we were only meant to take the one but we assured him that he shouldn't worry, theres no way we would let the other one be put to sleep,so Sacha and Sherry are fed, warm, safe and happy but it could have been so different. As you say, thank god they were dropping off to you first. It just doesn't bear thinking about. It breaks my heart that so few people care about the welfare of racing dogs and horses if they don't make the grade. furious.gif

They couldn't be in a better place - you and Eddie are absolute superstars. biggrin.gif

Hope they find their forever homes very soon. smile.gif

What an unbelievably unfair world we live in when you hear stories like that. Thank goodness for Rachel and Eddie being there when the 2 new arrivals needed them most. The fight against cruelty goes on.

What a terribly sad tale, and its depressing to think this is happening all the time. I'm glad you and Eddie were able to make space for both these girls, hope they find families soom.

Rachel if your house was as big as your heart - you would be living in a sprawling mansion with 50 acres of land!!!

Am so glad you took both the girls. I suddenly thought of wee Nan when you spoke about the other little one being put down as that was what was supposed to happen to her if I remember right - I'm sure that is the reason you also ended up with her - and you should see her now, sprinting about the garden playing with Annie, cant imagine her not being here - they all deserve the chance to live a proper life as a dog having fun with people who love them.

take care
Jacqui, Annie and Nan xx

Hi Folks,Thanks very much for all the nice comments, the two girls are fine both are very quiet in their kennels, you wouldn't know they were there,Sherry the fawn one is a real sook, she loves lots of attention she'd let you cuddle her for ever!Sacha the blue and white one is much quieter, she likes attention too but you can tell she's not used to it.I'm sure given time she will come to like being petted as much as Sherry.Feel free to pop in and see all the dogs if you find yourselves in the area we can always put the kettle on!!!.A last piece of news before i go back out to the dogs Dolly and Dinka went to their new homes at the weekend and gorgeous Paddy went off to his new home last night.Fingers crossed it all goes well for the three of them. That means room for the next needy hounds!.smile.gif

That's great news for Dolly, Dinka and Paddy. So, are Dolly and Dinka now Dunoon residents? I hope so because I might run into them sometime and get to say hello again. They were so sweet. aww.gif

i would love to pop in and see the dogs and get a coffee but i'm afraid you'd have to do a nose count on my departure and check the car......... i WOULD take them all home if i had the chance. You are amazing people and well done for all that you do. Im not surprised they left the pts task to last, the poor man must have been in bits at the thought. How nice that they called back to check on them, huge hugs and kisses to all the dogs and you both for all the hard work

Heard from the girls new mum, both are getting on great and are very much loved, the wee one which we called Sacha had loads of fun pulling a five foot cage on castors across the floor, and what is in the cage?two pet rats!!!biggrin.gifthis didn't last for long and both girls are totally unphased by the other pets in the house.Ive also spoken to a friend who's been over to visit and she was telling me that all the pets live in fantastic conditions and have their mum around all the time, and dads every bit as soppy about the animals as their mum is,sounds like an ideal home to me.

Seeing dogs go off to their new homes is what helps to keep us motivated when dealing with situations like the earlier one of the poor young girl who was so nearly put to sleep.
On my way in to work this morning I saw a beautiful black greyhound running by the road. I stopped the car and called to her but she was so timid she ran a mile (somebody did say I don't look too good first thing in the morning!!). I can't get her out of my mind now, she is so pretty. The worst thought of all is that she is a stray female and we all know that means a stray litter of puppies at some point.
